  1. I think Icon representing this aircraft as half boat and half plane isn't really a safe Idea. when the came out with the original concept i thought it was pretty cool, but as I got my PPL, i noticed advertising a plane as a jetski probably isn't a great idea.
  2. my guess is that at 25k, youd be using at least 290HP. to get something to go 242kts isn't easy even with the little amount of air.
  3. well if you own it, what are you specs. I'm curious on useful load, empy weight, GPH, Cruise speeds, and range, and how much of a handful is it to fly compared to the regular bravo and Acclaim. for instance The 252 rockets where extremely hard to descend with, as owners didn't want to shock cool the engine, and the minimum recommended power on the rocket engine was 45%, which was equal to about 70-75% of the regular TIO-360. I wonder how difficult this thing was to bring down.
  4. Thank you. This was some of the info i was interested in. A really cool plane, but seems more of a hassle than a joy to own. I thought the idea of a 350hp mooney was cool, but the plane looks like it costs a tad bit over 200 grand to buy and maybe a good 40 to 50 per year to own.
  5. damn. 260kts. that's getting pretty close up there with the aerostar and lancairs. I mean just looking at it, it looks insanely fast. Looks like it has cooling pipes that go through the body to end of the aircraft.
  6. I'm not planning on buying it. I think it would be a little bit too much plane for an 18 yo kid with 120 hours on his ticket. just looks insanely fast. I saw somewhere that they cruise at 220 but i find that relatively slow considering a bravo could do exactly the same speed on an engine with 80hp less, and the bravo didn't exactly have major upgrades in aerodynamics compared to the M20L
  7. anyone know the specs on this thing. M20L liquid rocket. looks a tad bit over powered. not looking to buy it, but the plane is interesting and I can't find any info on it online. from what I was able to find, only 5 or 6 had the STC done. http://www.usaaircraft.com/aircraft-for-sale/10/1988-mooney-m20l-liquid-rocket
  8. I believe Signature has a 3 hour free of charge ramp. but once it passes 3 hours it probably isn't very cheap. That's at least what I've seen when I've dealt with signature both at john Wayne and long beach.
  9. As of right now my family is planning on getting a mooney. Ive been looking at trying to take a ride up in a mooney. The majority of my life I spent in the back seats of an M20k 231, but since i was from ages 1 to 8, I actually never got to fly it. As of right now I got my PPL, and am currently working on my IFR and since my parents are both IFR pilots and planning to acquire an aircraft, I just wanted to see if i could a quick ride in one. Id be willing to pay, but as no flight schools rent mooneys, I dont have anywhere to try one. I'm not really picky. I dont really care if its an m20c, or a brand new Acclaim ultra. hopefully this doesn't come off as rude, asking for a ride in someones plane. I saw i couple people did it on mooneyspace, and i thought Id try. N
  10. Think he was talking about the pa46 piston. not the turbine version.
  11. 2 questions. I am really confused as if the g1000 is good or crap. I have done quite a bit of research in the past year, and have seen that they are good, so could you cite some links on why it would be a bad decision. I'm just trying to find all my facts. second, This wasn't really a debate but more as a post to try to get an idea what the ovation o long body is like to be in. I just like the idea of the 3GX because it includes a 310HP engine, which will help me throughout the shorter runways i"m taking off. shortest runway i fly to consistently is about 2300 ft long. Additionally, the g1000 looks really nice, and it may attract chumps like me want to have it, but ive flown one once, and it was quite a nice experience. I would want a GFC700 but i believe that is out of my budget, and so is waas with the g1000. I could get waas with a 430 or 530 probably.
  12. the cheapest ovation I have found was 249k which was an ovation 2GX. I found an Ovation 3 for 259k which is the 310hp which is something i would also like. I found a 2DX for about 280k but i dont see the point of spending more for a 6 pack, and 280hp instead of 310hp.
  13. I understand that you retrofit it, but i cant find any Ovations That come with a 6 pack, and if they come with the G1000, im happy enough with that.
  14. My dad personally loves the g1000. The mooneys thats ive found lately consisted of Mooney Ovations 2gx's, and 3's. and ive only found a couple, like 3 or 4 Ovations in my budget, and they were all GX mooneys so i dont see the point of going for a retrofit if its the same price. i really haven't found any Regular 6 pack ovation 2's for sale either. And i can't find any retrofit mooney ovations either.
  15. Well as the title says, I'm trying to look at an Ovation and see what the plane is like. Preferably would rather take a look at an Ovation 2 GX or 3, but i'm not complaining If its any of the other Long body mooneys including an Acclaim or Bravo or an original Ovation 1. I'm located at KSNA or John wayne, but could probs take the 172, and get a bit of a distance to meet. Thanks in Advanced. Nik
  16. just commenting so i get notifications. Really interesting thread.
  17. It's telling me its not available. Just curious could you give me your numbers for that flight.
  18. Im also looking for realistic Ovation 2 and 3 performance number, I remember a while back, when I didn't have an account, I saw a word document with GPH, speed, and altitude for an ovation. Edit: i don't know why i quoted this.
  19. from my experience, i took a quick seat in the back of the acclaim, and in my honest opinion, theres more space in the back than there is in the front, and that was with the seat infront of me adjusted for my flying position.
  20. I have flown in the back of a 231 for 8 years. granted this was from the day I was born, to about 8 years old. I got checked out to fly DA40 so i can rent those at the moment and get hours. I do like mooneys though, a lot. they are really really good looking planes, especially the modern ones. Both my parents have about 500 hours in mooneys so that might help too. my dad has the mooney mentality which is once a mooney owner, always a mooney owner. The gear does scare me a bit, but i feel i can get used to that. I took a seat in the back of an acclaim, and to be completely honest, that thing is really spacious. Way more than enough space with 4 people. some mooney O3's I have seen have a UL of about 1050, and i'm not really looking for AC or Fiki as I live in SoCal. 1050 is an optimistic number, but I have found a couple, and i'm not in a rush to get it. I don't see the point of the 6 seat saratogas or pipers as the have the same UL as the mooney at a higher fuel burn, slower speed, and most of them are turbos, which for then time being I would like to stay away from. I also heard its a good idea to stay away from retractable gear cessna's. when ever I travel, i will be flying with 4 people, or there will be 3 or 4 instances where i will do my yearly trip up to whistler and it will be 2 people and 3 bikes.
  21. So to begin, I do realize I am comparing 2 very different aircraft. one being plastic, the other being metal. one of these 2 planes is an absolute speed demon. The other is slower, but less of a handful. I am rather a new pilot. I have been flying for about 4 years, and currently have about 115 hours total time. I am currently 18 years old and pretty tall 6 3ish, and 155 pounds. learned and solod in j-3, and finished my license in 172. my main mission would be to travel, but i would also like to finish both my commercial and IFR in this plane. I will be carrying 4 people and all of them are 6 feet or taller, so older Mooney are mostly out of the running. I grew up in sitting in the back of a 231 as that's what my parents owned and both my parents plan on getting re-certified so they can fly again and they are both IFR certified. Additionally, My dad wants a glass cockpit so its going to be the 2GX or 3. This plane will be used for training and traveling. Id say budget is 200k to 250k. Which would you pick and why. I also do realize that i am on Mooney space, but I'm trying to get as many opinions as possible.
