  1. mine has the same problem. I just decided to hand fly the plane on approaches. best fix is most likely the 3100 upgrade.
  2. I don't know exactly how to use that device, but I do know for a fact you can isolate certain headsets in and out and i'm willing to bet you just have your passengers isolated out. hopefully it is that, as that would be the cheapest solution. good luck
  3. The GTX345R has nothing to do with where the sound is going. What Audio panel do you have. do you have an independant audio panel, or is it the one (GMA35C) thats integrated into the GTN750.
  4. do you have crew mode on? I believe the Allegro had the same avionics as my eagle. Look at the pma 7000. theres gonna be a switch that says ISO, ALL, and CREW. I willing to bet a decent amount of money, you have that switch set to CREW. set it to ISO and you won't be able to hear anyone. Set it to all and you can hear everyone.
  5. In my post it says 345r. Might of just missed it.
  6. Can I use a CDI without Glideslope with the GNC255? the Nav unit will still recieve the signal of the glideslope, but it won't have anywhere to display it. would that be possible?
  7. So within the next 5 months, Right side panel will be pulled out and exchanged with a gtn750, GMA35C, GTX345R and possibly a GNC255. The only issue is that I can't decide to keep my number 2 nav/com and use it with the basic CDI, or upgrade the #2 Nav/com. if I decide to upgrade it, I need to spend an extra 2.5 amu on a CDI with a glideslope since my number 2 nav/com only uses a CDI without glideslope. This gives me options as of what to do with my number 2 nav/com Option 1: Keep the KX-155 and The CDI in the aircraft as a number 2 nav. Option 2: get a GNC255 Nav/com and buy the Glideslope unit, which will have a cleaner look, but also cost around 8 to 9 AMU more Option 3: Get a GTR225 Com and get rid of the #2 Nav. I rarely use the #2 nav anyway and once I have a working GPS, I doubt I'll use the number 2 nav again.
  8. I too enjoy implying that someone bought the wrong type of aircraft, right after the owner survived a pretty horrific experience.
  9. its also nice to include what you are using to reference your speed. are you using airspeed indicator, waas gps, Ipad with gps. because if its an airspeed indicator, im pretty sure they aren't very accurate at altitude. EDIT: I just realized this comment is from 2016 and I am an idiot.
  10. I had a different story. I bought a plane with an IO-550 that had about 80 hours over the last couple years about 4ish months ago. Just put 135 hours on the engine in the last 4 months of ownership. Engine is currently at 1530 hours and has never had a cylinder changed. Engine is a TCM IO-550 G
  11. To be completely honest, it seems like you guys are really limited with your height. never seen a 6'7" guy get out of a cirrus or Beachcraft. Also in flight visibility during flight is pretty good. I have the same panel in a 99 eagle and being 6'4", it works out fine. you shouldn't have an issue.
  12. Smoke in that area is about 8 to 13 thousand feet. some days are better than others. when I flew north over medford, the smoke was around 8k ft. coming back a week later, it was 13500. Coast adds about 5 to 10 minutes, and most of the time, there is a marine layer about 3 to 500 feet above the coastal airports. If it were me, I'd fly direct at 15 to 17000 ft direct.
  13. Flew from medford to sac airport today and i can honestly say it wss the worst flight i have had so far. Got to the airport at 11am with 10 miles of vis today and tried to get past redding and failed so turned back and landed around 1, and about 5 mins before landing, a layer of smoke made it over the airfield turning it from 10 miles vis to 1 mile vis and ifr so landed with a special vfr. Then tried again at 730 and made it past reddingall the way to sac exec. The smoke is truely terrible. Visibility was 1 mile. All the way up to 13000ft. Cant believe what life is like for the people that live around 1o2, redding, medford and grants pass.
  14. 10 grand is dirt cheap for an upgrade from the stec 30. I have to say the same thing about the stec 30. It works. But to an extent. My avionics shop keeps on pushing the gfc500 but im not the biggest fan of the big panel box, and the fact that I need a g5. Id rather want the l3 or the s.a.m.
  15. flew over Norcal and south Oregon a couple days back. Redding was starting to get bad, but Grant pass was in a class of its own. visibility about 2 and a half miles for over hundred miles of flying. smoke all the way up to 8000 ft. would not want to be living there now.
  16. I love my eagle. With the baggage space and the seats folded down i was blown away by how much I was able to fit in the boot. cruise at 180 knots at 14.5 gals per hour and in style. I did a 6 hour flight on Wednesday from South California (KSNA) to North Washington (KBLI) with a stop in Eugene, Oregon. I had enough fuel to go direct but I wanted to check out university of Oregon. There arent many planes that can travel as well as a Mooney can. If I went direct I could have done it in 5 hours and 20 minutes.
  17. Part of my first breifing to passengers when driving ith them to the plane clearly states, "if the prop is spinning, do not get out of the aircraft ever". Its usually pretty easy to avoid things like this. I also loved about a month ago, when i was walking to my mechanic, and some guy in a cirrus blasts his plane up with out shouting clear prop or anything. There were 6 people standing around that cirrus when it started. I dont think its to much to ask to state when you start up your aircraft.
  18. In my limited opinion, I'd have to say that if you can afford it, the M20M bravo, M20R ovation, and M20S eagle, are truly some of the most impressive single engine 2 person cross country machines available today. Fold the rear seats down, and you can fit practically everything you need. granted it is somewhat a pain to get big things in with the small door, but yesterday I was able to fit 4 full sized mountain bikes, 4 helmets, plus camping gear all in the aircraft. The slowest one of the aircraft above will do 180 knots cruise. and tomorrow, I leave from LA to Vancouver. there aren't many single engine piston aircraft as capable as the long body ovations is you're looking to travel long distance. it is an amazing 2 seating cross country plane and a good 4 seat aircraft, if you find planes that have the useful load. I got lucky with the eagle as it already have 1000 lbs and once the engine stc is done, I should have about 1150lbs. I have taken 4 people before and the back seats are comfier than the front seats. The eagle was priced around the same price as a high quality J. I gave up some pretty panel in a J, in gain of about 1 and a half feet of room, a descent useful load, and 30 knots.
  19. how does the G5 compare against the L3 esi-500 and the MC S.A.M.
  20. If you have kln94 ddatabase that would be awesome
  21. I know its been over 4 years, but do you have any left buy any chance?
  22. I don't have too much advice on IFR as i'm currently working on mine, but I said exactly the same thing to my instructor. He responded by saying that once you get your instrument ticket, you realize that so much more is possibly with it. It practically opens up a new world.
