I looked up your old C. seems like it didn't make it very long after the next owner took it. Thats a pity. was a really nice C.

so as of yesterday, I acquired an m20s and had a couple of questions about it. 1. What to expect from the engine? the engine is a 244hp TCM io-550-g with a 2 blade mccauley prop. I took it on a test flight yesterday and was seeing 178 knots at 5500ft using 17.3 GPH and with 22.5"/2300. EGT were around 1500 and i cant remember CHT's. What are good power settings to fly it at. I was flying it at 75% and I think 17 gal is a little bit high. LOP or ROP? i was expecting a 170 to 180 knot aircraft at 12 to 15 gals/h. it this realistic? 2. Takeoff and landing performance... this aircraft has the 2 blade mc prop, which is great at efficiency, but is garbage when it comes to takeoff and landing performance. Are the numbers on the POH accurate. at full gross, what would the takeoff distance be? I would like to fly to oceano a couple times as that is my favorite airport as of now. the runway is pretty short at 2200ft. I know its been done with the 3 blade hartzell, but I feel like the 2 blade may be pushing it. ( i do plan to do the 310stc with an acclaim type s prop. 3. Grass strips. how does the aircraft do on grass. I know it is a heavy bird, but there are a couple threads stating it is possible. Good idea or bad idea. P.S. i will work very strongly on landing with the Mooney. I know it takes time to learn ow to land it shortly and will do this before I even attempt of thinking to land at a short strip. Thanks Nik

seems like a 252 or an encore would work great for your mission. The m20j/s/r models will make it to 20000 but the J starts to slow down around 10,000 and the R around 13000. When you look at 231, 252, encores, rockets, bravos, and Acclaims, they usually climb at +1200fpm all the way up to FL25. There are a couple eagle and ovation owners who fly their AC in the FL's but if you are consistently flying over mountains that go up to 13000ft, get yourself a turbo M20j, or a turbo M20r, AKA the 252, Encore, Bravo, and acclaim.

The STC can be acquired from mooney. It requires a hartzell top prop or a MT 4 blade. I don't believe the 280hp stc is available anymore. Props available are hartzell Ovation Prop Hartzell Acclaim Type S prop Hartzell Composite. MT 4 blade Composite. All in all, including the Gov, Prop, and STC, it will cost you about 20 AMU. which mooney eagle did you find? I've been messing around the market and only found 3 with low or midtime engines.

The a20s NC effect is 3 times more effective than the qc15, 25, and 35. They might work but the a20s will be a solid improvement. Another set of headphones i really like are the sony hear on 2. I had the qc25 and the sony, and the sonys are more comfy, cheaper, can be used both wirelessly and wired, and the nc is better.

That is probably going to be my first goal. I can get the Cessna down in about 450ft ground roll now, so I'm going to try to get as consistent as possible landing short distances in the mooney.
-
Also probably going to do at least 50 to 70 takepoff and landings before i feel comfy getting in and out of decent sized airports.

As of right now, my plan is to fly it back with my instructor (james mason) from kenosha. Hopefully it ends up being a fun trip where I can log some retract, HP and ifr time.

Thanks for the help. Thats props what i will do

Does any one know or have an ovation or eagle that they rent out, where I can get a couple hours of flying for insurance for the m20s I am about to aquire? Located in KSNA, and would like to try to find a way to ferry the aircraft back myself. If you have any opinions about this, feel free to comment.

Looking to Buy an Eagle or Early Ovation?

Im doing a prebuy on this pretty shortly. All the cylinders are above 70 psi and the engines not making any metal. Quite surprising actually. -

KPRB Fly-In ~ 30 Moonies Signed Up & Still Counting!
Niko182 replied to MrRodgers's topic in General Mooney Talk
I know for sure camping is available about maybe about a 5 minute flight down to oceano. Id strongly recommend going there as fuel is pretty decent, and oceano is a great little town. Id recommend the rock and roll diner for supper after the flyin.- 10 replies

Is it okay If i go up with a 172. My family is currently in the market for an ovation/ eagle as of now, and the time simply hasn't come to acquire it yet. I'm flying up with my dad, but if you're okay with doing 100 knots instead of 200, i'd be happy to take you along as you offered to once take me up in the bravo. This is no luxury aircraft, but It has been good enough for me. -
Whyd you sell that j. Was the nicest j ive seen

I would personally do what @lancecasper and find an 97 to 02 ovation and just upgrade the shit out of it. The O's I found are selling for about 160 to 180, and most O3 start at 300. add another 50-60ish to get it WAAS, SVT, and ADS-B (this number could be wrong, but from what I've heard its insanely expensive to get WAAS, ADS-B, SVT, ETC.) that's a difference of nearly 200 grand. for 200 grand, you can get an ovation/eagle, repaint it, redo the interior, add a g600 txi, gtn750, gtn650, a 345r, and do the 310 STC with the $25K plastic prop, and still have money left over. the only difference is, you'll have a plane with a paint scheme you want, an interior you want, with avionics you want, and can easily switch out when they become old. These are PP thoughts only. I do not own a Mooney, But hopefull within the next couple months I will own an Ovation, and I plan to go down the route I just recommended.

looks like theyre 4 pointers and the mount behind the seat. -
ovations and ealges fit the mission profile I nee pretty well actually. I just need a useful load over 1000lbs, which most of the 97 and 98 ovations have. eagles are on a different level where most of them have a 1150 lbs useful load with the 280/310hp stc. Sadly, I really liked this one as it had a g500, with gns 530 and 430 waas. paint was nice. and the condition of the engine, plane, and interior were very nice. and price reasonably 160k. pity that the useful load doesn't work with this aircraft.
