Putting vinyl ("decals") on your plane
air cooled dad replied to ragedracer1977's topic in General Mooney Talk
I googled how Frontier does the animals on the tails. Looking forward to seeing your Mooney wrapped! From Frontier's website: "The decal application is almost like one giant contact paper project. The image is printed on "transfers" that have the image on one side and a peel back adhesive on the other. The chemical structure is not really the same as contact paper, but the process is essentially the same. The decals last up to five years. Damage to the decals occurs due to wind erosion, repairs on the tail structure and sunlight. However the tails are regularly maintained." -

Trio Autopilot- Please respond if you want one
air cooled dad replied to merrja's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I'm on the firm list. No money deposited. I'm firm that I want an autopilot but both companies will have to battle it out for my money. Best product at a good price will win. I like the Trio but TruTrak is a close second. Jason- 38 replies

I got the same email! Step up Mooney family! So which will be the best bang for the buck, Trio or TruTrak? Either way, one of these companies will have my business. Jason

That's pretty cool! No pun intended. How well did it work? Jason

My new CO detector works great. The plane shows 0-2 on the meter. Today on the way from Michigan to Georgia my kid passed some raunchy gas in the plane. The CO detector went up to 10. Hmmmm. Next thing you know he puts the Sensorcon up to his butt and blasts one. Ding! 30 on the meter. Google says a high concentration of methane can register on a CO detector. My kid proved it. Yuck! lol. Now he wants to take my detector and show all his friends his new trick. I wonder what number Marauders girls could achieve? Jason

Michigan Mooney Owners - what airport?
air cooled dad replied to Stetson20's topic in General Mooney Talk
I'll be at 6D6 this weekend! Fairplanes Airpark might be too soggy. Looking forward to seeing your new plane! -
The Delta refinery purchase was all about lowering the crack spread. It worked. The extra product that is refined is traded for lower fuel prices across the country. Other airlines obviously benefit but the big wigs at the Big D are still pretty happy with the refinery purchase.

A couple guys I know flew their planes to the ATL. Old biplane and something else that was more fun than an airliner. Never went to Signature. Taxied straight to an event at the TOC, mx facility. They got a huge bill from the Atlanta airport. Luckily our CEO intervened and told ATL to pound sand. We already pay enough in landing fees!!! Back to the thread.....I avoid Signature like the plague. Just like I will never pay $5.00 for a bottle of water in my hotel room. I need this money for Mooney upgrades!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jason

How long is your home runway
air cooled dad replied to Pritch's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Congratulations!!! I didn't realize yours was N22VA. Very nice looking machine! We should be at 6D6 in a couple weeks. Turn up the heat. Michigan is a tad cold for my blood. -
Pirep for Precison Avionics, Griffin, GA
air cooled dad replied to DMJones's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Im based in LaGrange. Live in Newnan. Used Sam at OnTheBeam Aviation at Tara Field to install my Garmin G5. Excellent service. Happy to hear we have another excellent shop. -
I'm having the same issue. Tried two different thumb drives. Post an update when you succeed. I will not be near my plane to try another thumb drive for a week.

That's in Little Switzerland, NC I think. Wife and I were looking for a quick getaway this weekend but it's not open until April. https://switzerlandinn.com/

Hey now! I've only confused that with the ramp frequency a couple of times. Never done a PA on guard, yet. Lol. Wind check...

This dinosaur came out of my '75F today. I spy a Jurassic voltage regulator. Anyone want it? In my quest to solve the windshield wiper ammeter I swapped out a master switch. Cleaned a bunch of grounds. Found a loose ground on the alternator. Found another loose wire on the ammeter gage. Still messed up. Voltage on the JPI was always 13.8. Old voltage regulator kinda waffled between 13.2-13.8. I live next to aircraft spruce so I picked up a new Zeftronics voltage regulator. Works like a champ now. No more windshield wiper on the ammeter. I guess I could've adjusted the old one but I wanted a new one. It's shiny. Lol. Good luck with your electrical problem. Chasing these things can be a bear. I know I'm not a modern J but it should be close to mine. Behind my VR, on the other side of the firewall, is the shunt. Next to that are two inline fuses to the vacuum and voltage high/low detectors. To help diagnose my problem I momentarily disconnected my high/low voltage detector. Hopefully my picture will help you locate the items your looking for. Jason

My plane was cheap... until I decided that I wanted a JPI830. Then I installed a Garmin G5. Now I want to do my interior. Plus I'm very interested in the Trutrack autopilot. $$$$$$. Jason Ps. I may buy the turbo normalizer as well. Can't spend my money when I'm pushing up daisies!!!!

This afternoon I was holding short of the runway in Little Rock waiting for my wheels up time to Atlanta. Very windy. Gusty. Direct 20-25 knot crosswind. Nothing a Maddog can't handle. I was thinking about this thread as an Arrow attempted to land. Captain and I watched him struggle. Arrow pilot did a go around. On downwind he asked directions for an airport with a runway that aligned with the current winds. He made one more unsuccessful attempt at the Bill and Hillary international airport. Eye roll... Go around again. Off he went to a runway with much less crosswind. I was impressed with this pilots ability to make the choice of not landing. Good job. Practice those crossind landings but always leave yourself an out. As a professional pilot I applaud this weekend warrior. He made an excellent decision knowing his skill and aircraft required a different airport for a successful outcome. Ps/fyi . Flaps 40 degrees when landing in light winds. Flaps 28 in gusty winds for the mighty Maddog. I don't care what flap setting is used in your Mooney. Just practice all flap settings and know your plane and personal limits.

Mooney parts lists and cost sources
air cooled dad replied to air cooled dad's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I appreciate your response. I do know about all of those places. You did describe what I want though. An Amazon type website with prices. Oh well. Time to pick up the old rotary phone. -
In this day and age of internet shopping, I find it difficult to find parts and prices for my '75F. I want to point and click. Most recently I've been curious as to the cost of a master switch. Aircraft spruce has the split Cessna switch just one mouse click away with a price. None for a Mooney. I failed to find one on Lasar as well. Google yielded nothing. Adding a part number from the Mooney parts book sent me to an old Honeywell rocker switch. Using a J model part number at least got me to actual Mooney products. Here's my question. Where are the easiest places on the interwebs to find parts and prices? Thanks Jason

Just picked mine up from the avionics shop a couple days ago. $2900 total. Tax, install, G5, fiddled with my old kx170b, updated my gns430 and even wired my JPI830 up to my gps.

How long is your home runway
air cooled dad replied to Pritch's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Fairplanes airpark near Greenville Michigan. Not my home field. Brother-in-law lives here. We come to visit often. Home away from home! 2000' grass strip with big trees and power lines on the west end. I reposition the plane to a nice paved runway 3 miles away for the max gross flight home. Jason
