  1. Just picked mine up from the avionics shop! Pretty nice so far. Jason
  2. Just ordered mine. My bulky Home Depot sensor has been stuffed in my bag, turned off, for a long time. This new sensorcon unit will be much better. Thanks Jason
  3. I know my boss was there to discuss Middle East carriers and NAI trying to kill off the US airline industry, just like the merchant marines. I hope Bastian follows Andersons belief that ATC does not need to be privatized. We're taxed enough. User fees are unacceptable.
  4. Mine is a '75. We were cleaning and lubricating stuff while we had the panel open.
  5. Had a retired airline pilot, now FAA, in my jumpseat. His main focus is drones vs airliners. The Delta Maddog JFK drone incident was not a kid with his new drone from Walmart. People are purposely trying to inflict harm. I don't know anything about the IAD event. Unfortunately not many are taking the threat as serious as they should be. It may take an airliner to get some damage/engine failure with a CNN covered headline news emergency to get the powers that be to focus money and time on finding a solution. Nothing in aviation ever seems to get done until after a tragic event. Jason
  6. Yesterday I finally got a chance to put the plane on jacks. This switch was gummed up. It stops the gear motor. It would stay in the depressed position even after the plate no longer touched it. Slowly, a few seconds later, the switch would revert to its fully erect position. We cleaned it up and so far all is well. Did about 20 gear swings on the ground. Then went flying and I put some air loads on her. Worked great. Jason
  7. Thanks for all the responses. This will give me some ideas when I head back out to the hangar. Jason
  8. My install was quoted at $2700. $2100 for the unit plus $600 for the install. Goes in hopefully in a couple weeks. Jason
  9. Did someone say German cars and auto cross?!!!!? I miss my German mistress...
  10. I hope it's just that. Today I flew over my mechanic while putting up the gear. Here's the indications in the cockpit after selecting gear up.... gear selected up, motor makes normal noise, gear starts traveling up, motor stops after the normal 2-3 seconds, gear unsafe light stays illuminated and the gear warning horn sounds. Mechanic said it looked like the gear was in the normal up position. I'm still new to Mooney ownership. From what I can understand, when the nose gear comes up, it moves a pushrod. That pushrod makes contact with a switch turning off the warnings. Is this correct? Were putting my Mooney mistress on jacks soon. Looks like I'll be taking a closer look at my pucks too. Maybe I can use hockey pucks. I have lots of those!!!! Jason
  11. Lol. Sorry. Guess it's a cry for help. I tried searching old posts to find a solution to my problem. Now I seek out answers from all of you. My problem is similar to Guitarmasters but my gear actually moves and goes down just fine. Just not all the way up. Didn't want to hijack his thread. So yes, my question is, what's wrong? Thanks in advance. Jason
  12. I'm resurrecting an old post. '75 F ITT gear actuator with old gears about 30 hours away from AD inspection . Cold day for Georgia, 40f. Brrrrr. After takeoff I selected gear up. Heard the motor and felt the gear moving. The red gear light illuminated and the warning horn sounded. The floor indicator did move off of green. Put the gear back down just fine. Tried to raise the gear again. No joy. Gear motor makes its normal noises, green floor indicator moves, red warning light illuminates and warning horn sounds. This time I walk the rudder to wiggle the plane. Red warning light goes out but the warning horn remains. Cycle the gear once more and it works perfectly. Cruise around for 10 minutes and enter downwind. Cycle gear a couple more times and it works great. Good news is my new-to-me JPI 830 looks and works great! Thanks Oscar! The fine wire plugs I installed yesterday make her purr like a kitten. Garmin G5 finally off of back order. Install within a couple weeks. Pics to follow.
  13. For me it's To VFR or Not to VFR. I'm so used to ATC and IFR flying that a VFR flight is more difficult. Airspace? Class B? TFR's? No problem IFR as I know ATC will keep me outta trouble. Years ago I flew a Maule from Atlanta to Grand Rapids. Filed ifr on a blue bird day. When asked "why" by ATC I told them I was a chicken airline pilot who needed his hand held by ATC. Lol. After a few chuckles he then cleared me direct to destination. Get your instrument ticket. A good pilot never stops training. There are so many different things you can do in aviation. You've improved your stick and rudder with aerobatics and tail wheel flying. Why not expand your capabilities even more? You'll enjoy the confidence knowing what you can accomplish if needed. It's like buying an insurance policy that's actually fun and useful.
  14. I love my Touareg 2 Turbo Diesel!!! Vroom vroom! Just wish my wife would let me take it to Moab.
  15. I was looking at that plane before I bought my F. Good looking machine at a great price if I remember right. I'm based at KLGC. Fuel is $3.43/gallon. I'm a current cfii, Mooney owner and Delta bubba. I just don't have enough Mooney knowledge to pass along yet. I had zero time in a Mooney when I bought mine. It's a piece of cake to fly though! When Atlanta takes you south of the class Bravo, or under, watch out for tons of student pilots criss crossing the sky. Busy flight school at Newnan and Peachtree City. Often they will be in the pattern at Pine Mountain, La Grange and Carrollton. If you stop in LaGrange for fuel my F is in the big hangar getting a JPI 830 installed. The mechanics here are wonderful. Wander in and take a peak. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. The FAA online medical certificate application system, MedXPress https://medxpress.faa.gov/medxpress/ is not functioning and the FAA Help Desk is not responding to inquires about it. This precludes pilots from making a new medical application until the system is functioning again. AMAS leadership has been in communication with the Federal Air Surgeon who says that they are actively working on the problem, but do not have an estimate as to when it will be resolved. We will be notified as soon as he knows and will disseminate updates as soon as they are available. Key points regarding the current status: • Pilots who submitted their applications last week before the MedXPress outage can still have their examinations processed by their AME’s as this is a different system. • Pilots cannot use and AME’s may not accept old paper applications for airman medical certification, FAA Form 8500-8 • Duration of current medical certification cannot be extended as this is set by federal law. We will update you promptly with changes in the status of this situation. Please contact AMAS for any specific questions.
