  1. I agree,thats why I bought a GTN 650
  2. I assume that can get messy depending on how quick you swap the fittings.
  3. It should be able to handle the charging voltage 28v no problem.
  4. But you were upgrading from 830, was rebate on 830? Since the 900 is the same footprint was 830, someday if JPI has an upgrade special I might do the same.
  5. So, on a related topic, I'm going to use some approximate numbers for easy math: You take off, 90k And climbing 1000/min. At a 1000', you lose your engine, standard rate turn 180 takes 1 min, you've lost 600', pointed back towards airport you have 400' left, or 40 seconds to cover 1.5 nm, at 90 knots you end up 1/2nm short, or 20 seconds of glide time, or an extra 200'. With the absence of wind looks like you need 1200' of altitude to make the impossible turn. Do I got that right?
  6. Are hot starts easier with windmilling prop as oppose to on the ground?
  7. I used an opaque screen protector, I also use auto shades from Walmart to keep direct sunlight off it, keeps it cool as well.
  8. Reducing to 25/2500 is how i was taught, M20J POH states 26/2600 for a normal climb.
  9. Remember the winds at the surface may not be (and usually aren't) the same as at altitude. If you have to go down at night, water that shows up on your chart may be your best option. Your headrests will float in a pinch. Food for thought...
  10. You got to start sometime...you can at least do local IMC under benign conditions.
  11. Anywhere close to Bravo airspace and they want you out of the approach path, did you check the SIDs and STARs? I would check the altitudes use and pick an altitude thats 2000' above or below. Looks like they use 5000 as top altitude in all, with 3 major APs it's no wonder you get redirected.
  12. My emergency landing mechanism locked up, so when i sent it in they replaced it as part of the repair.
  13. Put your right knee on the seat and step out with right hand on seat back and left grabbing the handle. It's especially difficult if they have something in their hand.
  14. What if the engine had 4000 hrs vs 10? I'd like to know how much stress, flex the spring goes under, then I could make an educated decision.
  15. Whatever you choose, don't be surprise if it interferes with the radio on certain channels, if you have static breaks, unplug your charger.
  16. Ignore the section on pg 31 "Fundamentals of Attitude Control" where he talks about the age old argument of what controls altitude and what controls airspeed. It's a silly discussion.
  17. Could use regular screws, but the tapping process would be time consuming and expensive, probably add a AMU to the cost of a new plane.
  18. Modern avionics have circuitry to handle 14v/28v and also isolate the sensitive electronics from voltage spikes on power up, there is no special handling of the on/off switch. The old turn off radio master before shutdown SOP is from the old days. If you have an old 14v only avionics its probably still a good idea.
  19. I had mine done at KFPR, my images have before and after photos. The headliner and other trim pieces were covered in leather, the few trim pieces painted, i had the ashtrays removed, and the seats modernized....those ugly headrests. I didn't bother with the yokes or glareshield since they are in good shape.
  20. Yes they will. My Slicks have 1800hrs, they were serviced at 500hrs, then not again until I had them done at 1600hrs. And it cost about $200 for both mags. They were new in 96.
  21. Mobile users may have to turn tablet to landscape mode. BTW, what does that 8 track weigh, might get some useful load back.
  22. I would pull the glareshield, check the ground connections actually are grounded.
  23. Remember paper tape...I believe it was attached to a PDP 11, not to mention the old teletype printers...300 baud!
  24. Why are some of you assuming the temperatures are in Fahrenheit? With ATIS, METARs, TAFs, winds aloft temperatures normally in Celsius? I assume the WX reported by OP is aviation weather.
  25. BTW, JPI mark the probe bad, hence the reason it stays low in the data aboved.
