  1. I would suspect your ear plug was coming loose and letting the noise in. I have the Clarity Alofts but most the time I use my Bose A20's. The CA's I use if I need a good hair dew at my destination. The ear inserts tend to bug a little more than the head clamp. I keep meaning to make some custom plugs but haven't got to it yet. Being tall I would like to not bump my headset on the side window with A20's. Both are great for noise and mike.
  2. Looks like even the pilots asleep in this photo! Hows that CO2 detector working?
  3. I use the Garmin Pilot pack. I think it great plus it allows 1 portable with my subscription.
  4. Now the Canadian pilots are fighting with each other! Whats next, the Swiss pilots? Our last hope of civility in this world is disappearing!
  5. Economy of scale. You should see what I pay for 6 ml bottle of dental adhesive which the primary ingredient is acetone or the little tube of tooth etch which is Phosphoric acid! Ridiculous!!! Shipping and handling aren't that much better.
  6. I have never handled TKS fluid. Is there proprietary viscosity or would the viscosity be the same as mixing the 3 ingredients?
  7. This time of year I do a lot of take off at sun down and fly into the night. Night flying is really enjoyable! This picture is after taking off from KUDD looking north towards Palm Springs.
  8. I don't fly a turbo but I would guess waste gate or prop governor. There was a couple recent Bravo threads that mentioned mid time issues withe the exhaust. It would be worth a search if you haven't already read them.
  9. Ly-Con and have them port and flow balance the cylinders while your at it. Very impressive results.
  10. Have you checked for and induction leak on #4?
  11. Does the plane have a current annual from either of them? I'm personally would go to opposite shop if they do.
  12. Check out the video. It's all controlled by RC.
  13. Yes I do. In my narrow hangar I would find it to be an advantage to stand back far enough back to see the wing tips clear. I'm comfortable with my RC skills.
  14. Between that and an automatic hangar door I could sit in my car and watch it all happen! Pull up, watch the hangar door open, watch the plane come out, pull the car in, hangar door closes and then off to work. Pretty sweet!!
  15. Flying the low altitude TEC routes in California with many slower training aircraft in front of me I have seen many senerios. I've had slower planes vectors off the airway until I've passed, higher altitude given to me to pass and adjacent airways given to me. I have also been told to just slow down when the controller was grumpy:) The last senerio is the worst!
  16. Since I'm based in San Diego I'm used the slam dunk approaches if your coming from the east. In actual IMC it's worse because the volume of planes the controlllers are handling. I'm always concerned for pilots new to the area coming in and always recommend to them to put their gear out as soon as the the descent are given by the controllers. You have to do at least 1000 fpm descents and you will be join the localizer 500 feet high on the glide slope over the faf for KMYF. It's going to be rapid and nonstandard and it's got me in trouble a few times. Thursday I had the gear down and the speed brakes out in IMC being bouncing around in 43kts winds aloft. Thankfully it got smooth just before I broke out and it was a steady smooth crosswind. I wish for us non pro pilots there was a resource for what to expect into a new airport in actuall IMC conditions from the controllers. The only one I have found is forum searches and YouTube videos, both which have been helpful.
  17. Always check to make sure there is not exhaust leaking from the gasket at the cylinder interface and flowing back to the probe. This has happened to others and give high CHT readings. I would suspect this could be the problem if those where the 2 cylinders that where replaced.
  18. I'm have had my IFR since 2001and I live in San Diego. I have been a Mooney owner a little over 5 years. The furthest north I have been is Bella Coola, Canada, the furthest south is Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and the furthest east is Dallas, TX.
  19. I thought the same thing at first but a friend showed me his and I will do it on every car from now on! I take a few photos on my ride home tonight and post them.
  20. I looking for the best airport to go to Yosemite. Why do you use KMER and do you have any experience with the others in the area? Funny I was flying to Montrose Co from San Diego and had the joy of the headwinds!
  21. I just sold my Honda 2012 Civic with 130K miles for $9K. The only thing I ever had to do to it was put a set of brakes and tires along with the oil changes. I would recommend it for sure. I was always in the desert with it. I would also recommend tinting the side windows and back windows with 35% and the front windshield with 50%. The % is backwards to what people think, it's the amount of light not the amount of dark. It is amazing how much less cabin heat is in the car and the A/C is way more effective. You can see perfectly out the front window and well worth the money.
  22. Good stuff!
  23. Take a formation clinic and I think you all will be surprised with the variation in air speed indicators between planes. You need to do a good 3 way air speed calibration with the GPS to get your airspeed. With my past J I planed for 155 Kts and 9.5 GPH and always got there faster and had more fuel remaining. I would say I was closer to 158 Kts and 9 GPH.
  24. I don't get any ads on any of my devices or PC's.
