M016576 Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 Ok, what gives with this rocket.... It's been on the market for a while, and now the price is super low.... Anyone know why? http://www.lasar.com/w/id/114/new-plane-details.asp 1
NotarPilot Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 $112,000 for a K with a prop strike does not strike me (No pun intended) as super low. The panel seems decent with a Trimble GPS but it's still not a Garmin 430 or 530, which I think would carry a higher value. Perhaps the owner really has to unload the plane which might explain the timing of the recent price drop.
FlyDave Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 If you think that one's cheap, check this one out: http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/aircraft/Single+Engine+Piston/1984/Mooney/M20K+305+Rocket/1592661.html I'd have to figure a paint job and a GPS to start.

I guess they are only worth what someones willing to pay though!

aviatoreb Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 Wow... Super cheap for a rocket.... Wow - that is low. Yes, its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Is the bottom dropping out of rocket prices? I hope not, but if yes, oh well - I never bought thinking it was an investment, but a wicked cool airplane to fly. And it still is. Folks - its looking like the rocket might be becoming the most undervalued of the Mooney's for its price to speed/performance eh? That N777MT was for sale 2.75 years ago I think when I purchased my rocket. I think it was listed for ~200 then. It is hard to forget it because of the cat with a mask picture is cute. I have noticed it at progressively lower prices since.
TWinter Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 I spoke with the owner back in the winter. It was based in Portsmouth, NH (I lived there once so it peaked my attention). He wanted $150-160K (something like that- on EBay). The plane looks okay as a 15' foot paint job. It appeared it was stored and parked outside. He had some closer pics on EBay and showed the paint flaking on the elevator and a few other places. The interior was leather, but had a few pretty heavy wear areas. The owner was informative, also a very "colorful" individual. I think he held a few patents on some inventions that he was proud of..Nice guy with lots of flying experience, said he could sign-off the new buyer with some CFI lessons if needed. Maybe his inventions chat was overcasting the plane chat. At that time $150K he was stating "Must Sell" in his EBay ads? Not sure what the deal is.
RJBrown Posted August 20, 2013 Report Posted August 20, 2013 That plane has been for sale in one form or another for over ten years. Mostly priced at $275,000. He has kept it over priced so long the once state of the art panel has gone antique. It is now just a high time Rocket with old paint panel and interior. All things considered it might finally sell.

The more I look at this, the more I'm thinking about swapping out my Beloved J for it.... Bad bad bad! Just when my J is reaching my perfect state of "upgraded ness", I have to go and think about this.... Edit- too late it seems- looks like the listing has gone away. That was fast!

Just when my J is reaching my perfect state of "upgraded ness", I have to go and think about this.... Edit- too late it seems- looks like the listing has gone away. That was fast! I had been on Trade-a-plane for a few weeks. Price dropped from around $115 when I first saw it. If it was in decent condition it was a pretty darn good deal for a rocket! purchase price would put your fuel costs back down to a J burn for a few years (depending on how much you fly).
M016576 Posted August 20, 2013 Author Report Posted August 20, 2013 No no Jobe! Put your head between your legs until the feeling passes! Don't you have enough fun at work? This is what happens when I don't deploy for a while... I start getting all these crazy ideas....
Martin H Posted September 14, 2013 Report Posted September 14, 2013 Hello All, New to Mooniacs and your thought process! FYI - I AM deployed and already have the crazy ideas to be prepped for me when I get back. OK guys! I am a Cherokee 180 owner and want to move up to a long-range, reliable, effecient, FAST, IFR platform. Must be able to carry 1-3 adults and some bags for at least 650 miles - sometimes 800. Personal mission will be - same distance but 1-2 adults. Somebody tell me how to get more info on transitioning to Mooneys and especially Rockets! And Rocket ownership! Is THIS 777MT a good idea? I have been pre-approved for a policy that I can afford by my insurance broker. Standing by in Afghanistan Martin BTW - I am normally stationed at Ft. Polk, LA
