Seth Posted April 29, 2013 Report Posted April 29, 2013 Tom- Glad you stayed in the Mooney family and glad you remained flying. Your new bird looks fantastic - the HP increase makes a huge difference. -Seth Quote
bd32322 Posted April 30, 2013 Report Posted April 30, 2013 Congrats! I was considering that bird because of TKS which I want in the north east, but it was a bit rich for me. Those are some amazing speed numbers btw! Quote
fantom Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 All's well that ends well...it does have A/C. doesn't it? Quote
Jeev Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Congrats!!! An Ovation with G1000 and FIKI is my dream plane!! Enjoy her! Quote
Hector Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 ENVY!! Congrats! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Quote
Cruiser Posted May 8, 2013 Author Report Posted May 8, 2013 Spent some time in the plane last week, programming the EDM 830 for MAP and HP. I found that at 4000 feet with MAP 22.6 and RPM 2400 I was getting 171 KTAS on 15.8 gph. Not real confident on the FF because the K-factor still needs to be fine tuned. Is this in line for the 310 HP upgrade on the Ovation? Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Was that ROP? You should be able to do noticeably better LOP from my brief experience helping a friend with his O3. Quote
KSMooniac Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 IIRC, 180 +/- on 13.5-13.8 GPH is achievable in an Ovation. Quote
carusoam Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 O1 burns the same as O3 at cruise... Major difference is O3 is capable of 2700RPM... Nice for T/O and climb... Stock O1 is limited to 2500RPM... 165kts LOP, 12gph or 175 kts ROP 15gph (roughly speaking,@11,000') O3 has different prop, rpm controller and cylinders. = STC... Standing O or Sceaming Eagle. Ride quality costs the extra. 6cyl is extra smooooooth.... Best regards, -a- Quote
Cruiser Posted May 11, 2013 Author Report Posted May 11, 2013 Even ROP that is 50% more fuel than a J would burn while only going 10-12 knots slower. Surely that's not right? Jim well, not quite. My M20J would routinely fly 150 KTAS on 9.2 gph LOP at 7,000 feet. It is certainly not double (18.4 gph) but still a lot more than the "J" even at +21 KTAS. The Mooney M20J/201 is certainly one of the most economical airplanes ever built. I knew I would give up some efficiency, I am just trying to set a baseline to work from. Quote
Bennett Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 With the LoPresiti cowl, Power Flow exhaust system, and all the other mods, I can generally achieve 160 KTAS at 7,500' (smooth air, a bit cooler than std), Ram Air open, at about 9.8 GPH LOP. 2550 RPM. A bit faster at much more fuel flow ROP. Quote
BorealOne Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 I'm reporting 168 KIAS 15.1 gph at 4000, 22 MAP, 2400 rpm in my Screaming Ovation...think you may need to dial back the K factor a bit. Quote
carusoam Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 If your Money Man rides in the back, get the Ovation. If he rides in the front, choose the fastest plane! Just sayin' -a- Quote
RocketAviator Posted May 11, 2013 Report Posted May 11, 2013 One fine looking plane!!! Just need more pictures! Quote
Cruiser Posted May 17, 2013 Author Report Posted May 17, 2013 For those that asked, here are some cockpit pictures from our flight today. Still having issues with keeping #5 CHT down. I know the ALT blocks the cooling and it is a known problem. I am not willing to accept the +40°F or so elevated temps compared to the other CHTs. With the 310 HP upgrade and the TopProp she wants to leap into the air. At 120 kts. she will climb at 1200 fpm. but #5 CHT will not allow that to happen for very long. Quote
harrispa Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Cruiser, if you are not aware of "pixie holes" to lower the #5 CHT, it has been discussed before: http://mooneyspace.c...ixie#entry45073 1 Quote
RocketAviator Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Yea buddy, & thanks for more pictures! Quote
RocketAviator Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Nice Plane!! Yea buddy and thanks for the "more pictures" Fly safe, Rocket On! Quote
Hondo Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 Cruiser "I found that at 4000 feet with MAP 22.6 and RPM 2400 I was getting 171 KTAS on 15.8 gph." For standard day at 4000' when running 50 LOP at 2400 RPM and 22.5 MAP, the POH shows 65% power, FF of 12.3 GPH and 173 KTAS. At 19.9 MAP, FF drops to 10.3 for 55% and KTAS is 162. Congratulations!
