Becca Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 (I can't believe I saw this video on the Beech forum, but there you have it..) Quote
Becca Posted November 21, 2012 Author Report Posted November 21, 2012 Ah, how'd I miss that a year ago! Quote
richardheitzman Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 that is some seriously old struts. See the shock on the nose? Quote
fantom Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 The overriding question is why are Becca and Byron spending so much time on the Beech forum? ;-) Quote
rbridges Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 The overriding question is why are Becca and Byron spending so much time on the Beech forum? ;-) yeah, what's up with that? Quote
jetdriven Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 Probably because I would bever hear the end of it here! Quote
fantom Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 Probably because I would bever hear the end of it here! I believe Becca did post something about the 'occurrence' here, suggesting that Byron wouldn't come clean since he was in the left seat. Quote
chrisk Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 I want details. What caused this? Manual gear came unlatched? Gear switch was down and air speed safety released? Quote
Becca Posted November 22, 2012 Author Report Posted November 22, 2012 Yes, dearest Byron won't admit that my USS Sedona landings were flawless despite his right seat nagging. When it was his turn to fly (we were coming back from a Grand Canyon overflight and I wanted to take photos) - he panicked that 4000' runway just wouldn't be long enough and his mental picture of our beloved Mooney going over the mesa was too much for him, and he went into 747-mode assuming our plane had anti-skid, slammed on the brakes to make the turnoff at 2000' and, thump thump thump. Then he widely disemminated the picture of the flat tire with the caption "don't let your wife fly". We found a local mechanic who replaced the tire for like $50 though, which is pretty much the best deal in aviation ever. He absolutely does owe a trip report for the whole trip - we took some great pictures of grand canyon and monument valley - and to post them here not on the beech forum. That said, the beech forum's trip report section is quite a bit more extensive than ours, we should work on that.. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 My ex-wife's parents lived in Sedona, so I made more trips there then I can remember. One Christmas we flew up there and the weather was horrible. I was the only plane in the sky. On Phoenix approach and center - no other planes except airlines. It was snowy all over and the winds were nasty. On approach to Sedona the winds were out of the northeast at about 50-60 knots. About 1/4 mile from the end of the runway there was a downdraft so strong that I could not maintain altitude with full power. I dropped below the runway about 50 feet. To avoid crashing into the cliff I turned right and flew along the right edge of the hill. After I passed the end of the hill the downdraft subsided and I started to climb. When I was about 20 feet above the runway I side slipped back to the runway and touched down about mid field. Sedona is always interesting. Quote
fantom Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 I guess that flight ended the marriage ;-) Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 No, I didn't want to go, she insisted. After that landing she said "I knew you could do it". She was just glad to get to her parents for Christmas dinner. Quote
AcclaimML Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 I think I'd have to change my shorts after that landing. Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 This happened a few years later.... http://www.ntsb.gov/aviationquery/brief.aspx?ev_id=20070418X00434&key=1 Quote
The-sky-captain Posted November 27, 2012 Report Posted November 27, 2012 Branson, Mo (KPLK) is a mini version of Sedona. Drop off's on both ends and less than 4000' long. Of course this is the airport my gear would decide not to retract on a hot July day, 3 passengers, near gross weight. Quote
RJBrown Posted November 28, 2012 Report Posted November 28, 2012 When I sold my Rocket to a guy from San Francisco he needed to take delivery out of state for sales tax reasons. We flew together from Stockton to North Las Vegas. He was left seat. Landing in Vegas there was quite a cross wind. At about 30' he panicked and said "Your plane" I got it down a little crooked and he hit the brakes to "steer it" straight. His previous plane had a castering nose wheel and was steered with the brakes. On the ground he started to walk away unaware and I stopped him and showed him the cords on a new tire. At that point he tried to blame me for the damaged tire. I had to show him the lack of brake pedals on the right side before he took responsibility. Quote
