BigTex Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Last week I was out practicing ILS approaches and normally I just use my GNS430W/GI106A but this time I wanted to compare the two indicators to see how close they were. Well to my surprise, the KX155/KI209 there was no glide slope coming in. The localizer was identical to what the GNS430W/GI106A was indicating. Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this before sending it off the the avionics shop? Quote
carqwik Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Perhaps you forgot to switch from GPS to NAV...so you're seeing GPS derived localizer but the G/S won't appear. BTDT But I think the Garmin box automatically switches....I have the KLN94 so I have to manually switch. Quote
N601RX Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 Is this the 1st time using it since getting the plane? If so make sure the radio really has the glideslope module installed. The glideslope and localizer share the same antenna and coax up until behind the panel. There it goes through the diplexer which is basically a splitter and notch filter that seperates the localizer and glideslope frequencies. From there it goes into the radio on 2 different pieces of coax. Look at this and make sure nothing is broken or unplugged. Quote
BigTex Posted November 9, 2012 Author Report Posted November 9, 2012 Yes.. This is the first time I used the glideslope. Prior to this, I only used the NAV for VOR navigation. I asked the prior owner if he had any issues with the glideslope and he said no. I'll check all the connections. Thanks. Quote
OR75 Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 since you have not seen it work before ... Are you sure you the KX-155 unit has not been switched ? some KX-155 do not have GS. Check the part number. Quote
Marauder Posted November 9, 2012 Report Posted November 9, 2012 You could also have a dead CDI for GS. Quote
BigTex Posted November 10, 2012 Author Report Posted November 10, 2012 Talked to the prior owner and if confirmed that the radio definitely has glide slope (at least it did.) I'll dig into some of the recommendations and see if anything pans out. Quote
