Independent Mooney Mechanic in Southern California

My aircraft partners and I are looking for an independent (not currently working for a corporate shop) Mooney mechanic in southern CA (we are in San Diego) with an IA for our next annual.

We are fed up with corporate shops that do mediocre work and are not responsive to the customer (unless you fly turbine equipment)!

Anyone have any suggestions?

Mike Passwater of Aircraft Ground Support at El Monte (KEMT) is who I've used for both of my planes. He does great work, isn't overpriced and doesn't mark up parts.

Kevin Schiff at Whiteman (KWHP) services several Vintage and Modern Mooney's, including at least two of which are on Mooneyspace. He is an IA with a large permanent hangar and has been there for at least the 12 years I have been in LA. Most of his customers have been with him a long time, but he is able to take on new clients depending on when your annual comes due. As a side note, I know that he had a set of travel boards as recently as a week ago, and can get them anytime if you have a rigging issue.

He is an honest mechanic but I won't say cheap or expensive. That really depends on what your expectations are.

Mike, My recollection is that you're at Montgomery? I used to be, and moved to Gillespie for a larger hangar. I am about to start my annual next week with a retired IA at Gillespie at my hangar complex, that used to be a Mooney mechanic and was even factory trained. He's truly an independent IA working out of his hangar but I only know about him in the context of owner assisted annuals at my hangar complex. Buck at Buckley Aircraft Maintenance in Chino did some great work for us. We had experience with a MSC near there that was awful, but Buck really went all out for us.
