Same happened to me just recently. I replaced it with LED. It was a simple replacement. Whelen no longer carries the 12V ballast and they couldn’t tell me how to check if the bulb was bad. A bulb is $300 IIRC the LED was just north of $400. It was a simple decision.

I've replaced my landing and taxi lights with the Whelen G3's that I bought from Jim Gallagher who is a sponsor here and can be contacted through MS.

Great improvement, much less current draw (3.8 amps @ 14v) as well as having a very long service life. Not to mention they're less money than the Moon Beam balast alone.

HID’s are still the brightest. But generally are good for 2000 hrs. If you have a dual light system e.g. landing and taxi lights you can swap bulbs to verify it’s the bulb and not ballast. But it should just be a bulb replacement.
