druidjaidan Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 (edited) Ok so I'm trying to update the databases on my GI-275s for the first time since buying 231RU. As I understand it there will be a USB dongle zip tied someplace under the panel. Indeed, I found a random USB B (like a printer usually has) cable zip tied to a bundle under the panel. I'll probably have to follow it back to be 100% sure, but how likely is this to be right. I was very surprised to find a USB B port as that means I'll need to get a USB A female to USB B male cable/adapter (like this https://www.amazon.com/Printer-Extender-Connection-F-USB_B-USB_A-USB_B/dp/B01N5LE9YD). I expected to find a simple female USB A (like you might plug the recommended USB flash drive into...). Guess that's too much to ask. Edited February 10 by druidjaidan Quote
PeteMc Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 Mine is in the Right seat leg well near the center console. Easy to lean over and get to if I'm in the Pilot/Left seat. So double check to see if they didn't stick it up in there. But is there any other Garmin gear in the plane? I actually don't use that USB to update, the data syncs from my GTN to the GI275. Quote
201Mooniac Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 What other equipment do you have? The GTX 345 would also have the USB dongle so you might have to look around. I have never used that to update mine so I'm not sure which connector it has. Quote
BrentS Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 My GI-275 install had usb A female connectors but were only used for device software updates. the GI-275 has built in wifi and if you use garmin pilot you can update the databases via database concierge and wifi and it will also then sync with a gtn or gnx navigator. very easy and no usbs or data cards to carry around. Aerodon Posted February 10 Report Posted February 10 Another way of doing it is to install a GSB15 that will become a USB power outlet as well as data interface. Quote
druidjaidan Posted February 10 Author Report Posted February 10 Yeah we don't seem to have any of the easy options available. My navigator is still a 430w so no sync available as far as I know. I have no interest in converting to Garmin Pilot. I used it in the past (before I gave into getting an iPad) and was unimpressed with it. Then add to it that Garmin rolling the database concierge into the Garmin Pilot subscription instead of having a separate app is just an uncompetitive bullshit lock in attempt. Really have no interest in feeding Garmin even more, especially when the product isn't as good. So I'm stuck with finding this supposed USB port. The previous owned had installed the Stratus USB ports. I'd held out hope that it was somehow connected to the Garmin USB, but no luck there. Failing that I had assumed I'd would find a USB A Female port zip tied somewhere under the panel. But I didn't find that either. I just found that USB B. We do have a GTX 345 and that does document the use of a USB B, and the dongle was attacked the the wire bundle that going to the transponder so I think it's pretty unlikely that is correct. Dang. I wonder where the hell they hid the port. Quote
