MisfitSELF Posted February 7 Report Posted February 7 Here's what I have: 1984 M20J, IO-360-A3B6, McCauley 2 bladed propeller, and I don't know if the spinner is a Mooney manufactured or a McCauley. 1. My IA discovered some ovaled attachment holes in the spinner with one in particular having some missing material that has us concerned. 2. Can anybody tell me a good spinner / prop repair shop in the So Cal area who can tell me if it's repairable? 3. Does anybody have a good source for a new spinner if I have to go in that direction? Thanks, Bruce
N201MKTurbo Posted February 7 Report Posted February 7 If there are no cracks, I would let it go. If the holes are ovaled, it is most likely from improper installation. If you need a new spinner. it is a McCauley part. I would look for a used one too. There are a few spinner shops that will weld them.
201Mooniac Posted February 7 Report Posted February 7 I have a spinner that was removed from my 1980 M20J when I changed to the 3 blade MT prop. Let me know if you might be interested, I can send pictures.

Thanks, Bruce I ordered a new three blade McCauley spinner and backplate through Ottosen Propeller in Phoenix about a year ago. McCauley had to make it; couldn't find one anywhere. Took about a month. After having my backplate come apart in flight, I went with new. BTW, lesson learned during the search; don't rely on anyone's web site showing they have stock; call them to verify stock before ordering regardless of who you deal with. 1

Many businesses these days merge their "available inventory" lists with other outlets or even other cooperating companies. Anybody in the network can make the sale and whoever has it drop ships it. Since nobody fully controls the displayed inventory, mistakes seem to be common. Sometimes they'll show where the part is before you order it, but not always. It can definitely be frustrating when there are mistakes. 2
