Will.iam Posted September 27 Report Posted September 27 Well I flew 10 days ago multiple stops no issue had my plane on battery minder for all 10 days and when i came out to start it the battery slowly turned the prop over and then stalled. I looked in the logbook for when the previous owner installed the battery and i could not believe it 1 Apr 2011! That battery owes me nothing! That is an amazing 13 year 5 month streak! I was just surprised that i got no warning at all acting more like a lithium ion battery than a lead acid and my last annual they said my battery pasted the test. I am just as shocked at the increase in new battery prices with most wanting $1000 i found chief’s had a special for $849 for RG24-16 battery which i only hope goes as long as the one that was in there now. 2 Quote

Did your area have a significant temperature change over that time? An aging AGM that is near end-of-life will sometimes just give up the ghost completely without warning, which sounds like what happened to you. This is the usual means of automotive battery death in AZ, it just quits either in the fall when it cools off or in the spring when it first gets hot. Quote

I got about the same out of my last Concorde. Mine failed a load test last year but I could tell it was loosing capacity. Not worth pitching though. I keep it fully charged in my hangar. Quote

You need either a 24-15 or a 24-11. https://batterymanagement.concordebattery.com/BatteryDocs/finalfaapma.pdf Quote
Red Leader Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 That happened to the battery in my last plane. A few years ago, I flew to another airport to discuss avionics upgrades with the shop but when we went to leave, the plane would not start. We got a jump and flew home but the battery refused to spin the prop after shutdown. Talk about sudden with no warning! I don't remember how old it was but I do not believe I got near the life out of it that you did with yours - well done! My replacement, at the time, was around $600. Quote
Hank Posted September 28 Report Posted September 28 My 12V Concords average around 7 years. I'm happy with that. I write the installation date on top with a Sharpie. Quote

Thanks for checking i appreciate it. Quote

Wow that is interesting because literally that was the first morning that i tried to start it with the temps down to 69 degrees. It had been 85 or above all summer. 1 Quote
