GTX 345r pairing but not connecting via Bluetooth

Whether it’s a GTN or G1000 you can connect to the GTX345 or GTN345R via Bluetooth. I had a GTX345 panel mount on a previous aircraft and was able to connect to Bluetooth.

On my G1000 I wasn’t getting a great BT signal so I replaced oxygen door in the baggage compartment with an ABS panel and I also put a passive repeater in the tail section next to the transponder and the signal strength has improved and I am able to stay connected.

You connect through the portable device just like you would any other Bluetooth source, not through the installed device.

Correct.  But if you have a GTN and GTX combination, the BT is turned OFF in the GTX.  I've heard why, but don't remember the exact reason, so won't speculate.  I know for a fact the BT in my GTX is OFF and I needed a FlightStream to connect FF to the GTN.

Others have said GTX BT can be left on when connected to a G1000.

Others have said GTX BT can be left on when connected to a G1000.

 

If it's wired correctly, a GTX 345 should be connected to the GTN via HSDB (Ethernet). In this case, the Bluetooth screen on the GTX is disabled. But the GTX Bluetooth is not disabled -- the setup is remoted to the GTN and you control it from there.

From what he said, no GTN.  I asked if there was a GTN and he said no, G1000...

AFAIK G1000 Does not have separate Bluetooth radio. Presumably G1000 connected via Garmin data bus to GTX345R...

If you haven’t deleted your old GTX345 Bluetooth connection on your phone and tablet, you should, and then make a new connection.

I was responding to your post, not the OP’s, by pointing out that the GTN (or a G1000) provides the user interface to the GTX 345 BT, but does not disable it. If you have a panel mount GTX 345, the GTN connection only disables the GTX BT user interface because that is now remoted to the GTN.

The OP has a G1000 which can also control the GTX BT. Apparently he was able to do that but could not get ADS-B data because Garmin only supports Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight and he was using a different app.

Thank you. Yes, that may have been one of my mistakes. It may have been looking for my previous GTX, not the new one. Also, after pairing through my phone or tablet's settings, I think I need to connect through an app that is actually supported by the GTX. So, will forget and re-pair the devices, and will then try to connect through FLTplan Go, as Deb suggested. If that doesn't work I will just forget about it.

I can control basic functions of my panel mounted GTX (non R) through the GTN or on the front panel.  If I want to go into more functions/menus I have to use the UI on the GTX.  As for the BT... The BT is totally disabled, not just the UI in the GTX.  At least in my installation and others I've talked to.  When I asked the shop about it, he said he didn't have a choice per Garmin's installation instructions. 

And then there's the stupidity of not adding BT to the GTN when they came out with the Xi version, but to not allow you to use BT in the GTX is just mind boggling.  I didn't really think about it when I was doing my installation, I just got the FS510 because everyone said that's what you do.  But now I see that the G1000 can use the GTX BT, SOOO....  What's up Garmin?!  I'm guessing a lot of people with a GTN put in a GTX345, so why not just let them use the BT and add a little code if you're connected to a GTN, you can do Flight Plan Xfer, etc.

The G1000 is not Bluetooth so it’s not using Bluetooth in any way from the GTX345R.

The Bluetooth is just for portable devices (example Aera 760, or tablet/phone using Garmin Pilot, ForeFlight, FltPlnGo)

Garmin makes a lot of equipment that can be assembled in a plethora of configurations. Some equipment features are redundant and so not everything works the same way in every configuration. In your case, the reason that the GTX 345 BT is disabled is because you elected to install Flight Stream which provides the BT connection. If you did not have FS, the GTX 345 BT would be enabled and it would be controlled by the GTN, not the GTX user interface.

Flight Stream BT capabilities is a superset of the GTX 345 BT so there is no need for it if you have FS. In addition, FS 510 has the wider bandwidth WiFi interface to enable Database Concierge.

Connecting to a GTX-345R on the G1000 is a bit different from the GTN’s because their is no Connexc menu like on the GTN’s and no FS capability, it’s just blue tooth pairing with the iPad directly. (Nxi changes this for the Ultra’s)
Mooney didn’t certify the latest G1000 s/w at the time, so it’s a bit limited in its feature set.

The biggest problem i see is that you can only pair 2 devices, but that may be unique to instructing. But other than that it works all the time but i have seen drop outs from poor signal in one installation.
Both Deb & David and Lance have this set up so they should be good resources.

Yes.... There's a LOT more about where to connect earlier on in this discussion.   And we're fully aware that the G1000 would need an optional Flight Stream to add BT. 

And the original question is all about connecting a phone and tablet.

And the Mooney 401.37 Software for the legacy G1000, which is the most current, doesn't support the FS210 or FS510.

I think you can only have two connected at one time.  But you can have something like 8 devices paired.
