Speed Mods or updated electronics

Im looking at used Mooneys and am wondering which costs more to add after the fact. Some planes have speed mods, some have nice electronics, but I havent seen many with both. Specifically, I am leaning toward a used F model. Though this is a topic for another post, which model Mooney to get.

Thanks!

I agree with Jim.  A few years ago, we had a fellow Mooney flyer tell us that even after every speed mod. that was availble for his F model, his speeds were not dramatcially increased.  It appears that the mods. are mostly for cosmetic reasons.  It is my opinion as well, that a clean and well maintained airframe is a must.  More than likely, all the other systems will follow along accordingly.

Welcome to MooneySpace.  It is a very friendly atmosphere for all things Mooney!

Another point to consider will be resale.  I just purchased a 75 F model that the previous owner had updated with every speed/asthetic mod he could find.  Although I am happy to have the mods, I bought the airplane based more on its avionics package than the speed mods.  In fact, I bought the airplane for almost exactly what he paid for the modifications!  A pretty big loss for him as he had them done in the past 2 years.  I do like the look and I true out at around 150 knots, but for what you would spend upgrading a standard F model to something similar to my ride, you could get into a J.  For the type of flying I do, I'll take a good GPS and autopilot any day.

An updated panel configuration makes a lot of sense as well.  Then there are the fuel tanks - take a close look for leaks and how many times previous owners have added sealant over sealant.  I'm in the middle of buying all the brushes and paint stripper in Memphis to clean out one tank and it is no joy!
