Aerodon Posted January 21, 2024 Report Posted January 21, 2024 For Canadian Mooney owners - if you have a GTN or GI-275 this is what you need to meet the upcoming diversity requirements in Canada. I have both a Lynx 9000 or a GTX345DR to install in my Mooney - one must go. I'll sell outright or take a panel or remote GTX335 or 345 in trade. I Have either horizontal or vertical mounts. PeteMc Posted January 21, 2024 Report Posted January 21, 2024 What is the current requirement and schedule for Diversity? A search didn't bring up anything new, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been a change. What I think the latest time line is: Class A airspace last summer (August 2023) Class B airspace this spring (May 2024) Class C, D and E will not be until sometime in 2026 I went ahead and bit the bullet when I upgraded my panel a few years ago. Didn't see the need to wait and then have them rip out all the paneling aging. Quote
Aerodon Posted January 21, 2024 Author Report Posted January 21, 2024 I'm not up to date on the implementation schedule. Have you got any pictures of your top mounted antenna please? And have you tried checking to see what the performance is on the satellite system? Is there a way of getting a report? Aerodon Quote

Basically just a little fin antenna that looks a lot like my old DME antenna on the bottom of the plane. And I'm hoping when I get to Canada next summer if there is a way to confirm with ATC that the Diversity is working. I don't see any other way to check, other than in an avionics shop. To my knowledge you cannot pull down a report like we can from the FAA here in the US. Quote
Kejidog Posted January 27, 2024 Report Posted January 27, 2024 (edited) I am a lurker here and thought I’d add to the conversation. This is a test page that you can submit a flight for a test within Canadian airspace. I have submitted a few of my flights and lo and behold my non diversity Garmin GtX 335 with the blade on the bottom of the fuselage of a 182 has passed on every flight i looked at. https://www.navcanada.ca/en/air-traffic/space-based-ads-b/public-ads-b-performance-report.aspx i would not worry about complying too soon most every aircraft in canada is still using mode C. They’ll be busy chasing these owners for years to be concerned about a transient aircraft Edited January 27, 2024 by Kejidog 2 Quote

And I'm assuming it's just like the FAA's site, you don't need to be on a flight plan or "in the system" it is just reporting what it is receiving. Right? So next time I'm up by the border or maybe transitioning I'll send in a request and see what I get back. Quote
milotron Posted January 28, 2024 Report Posted January 28, 2024 I've run several flights through this and more than half 'pass' the diversity requirements on that TC page even though I don't have it. There was a thread on Beechtalk about this too, with several folks posting results including those with diversity transponders. Quote

I tested it again with a short flight on Jan 9 I had no trouble passing all the required fields 0% failures on a short 35 min flight at 4500’ on the OP’s topic if I were buying the Lynx is a damn fine piece of equipment. I’d recommend getting that for anyone interested Edited January 28, 2024 by Kejidog Quote

Since they do not require the Sat portion yet for most flights, I could see them not dinging anyone. And were you near a larger city where they do have a lot of ground stations? My guess is if you headed off over some of the vast wilderness you'd get some failed results. It will be a while, but when i get a chance I'll check the site and see if it shows any different results from the Satellite side of my GTX345D. Quote
