co2bruce Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 I saw on eBay serial # 1 Mooney Eagle was for sale. Unfortunately it landed in a field and the main gear collapsed. (The picture is sad) It looks like a lot of damage to me. Could it possibly be cost effective to fix that kind of damage? I would think it would cost more than a flying one. I own serial # 2 so I guess I'm the oldest "flying" Eagle. Bruce Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 That would be quite an undertaking to fix. That plane was for sale about a year ago and I couldn't make the numbers work to buy it, so I got my 252 instead. Quote
co2bruce Posted April 5, 2012 Author Report Posted April 5, 2012 It's painfull to see a Mooney in that condition. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1999-Mooney-Eagle-Rebuildable-Project-Continental-550-Garmin-Radios-TKS-ICE-/290691508576?pt=Motors_Aircraft&hash=item43ae906960 Quote
carusoam Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 http://www.moapilot.com/pdf/Jan06/Jan06ALLweb.pdf More on this same plane (fuel injector line issue) and a word from our Jim Green. Later in the same issue, Coy Jacob indicates that off airport landings, on land, cause enough damage to exceed 70% of the aircraft's total value. Best regards, -a- Quote
flyboy0681 Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 What a mess. I'm just grateful nobody was hurt. Quote
rbridges Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 It said the mains were ripped out when landing on grass. damn. Quote
dpmatsalla Posted April 9, 2012 Report Posted April 9, 2012 Sometimes an off-field landing can be not too bad. My M20M did a gear-up in a snowy field back back in 2000 after it lost engine power. Repairs took a few months but certainly didn't exceed 50% of the total AC cost, and it flies beautifully ever since. Mind you, there's probably a difference between a pillowy snowy field and a rough grassy one... Quote
co2bruce Posted April 9, 2012 Author Report Posted April 9, 2012 Isn't that the new FIKI Mooney I've been reading about in your avatar ???? NICE Quote
