Has anyone ever seen another short body with a third set of windows in the baggage compartment? I did a double take when I saw a window in the baggage door. $900 LASAR mod in 1987. Sad to see an airplane that was so loved be equally neglected

The 3rd window is cool looking (at least I think so)… description has some oddities in it, never heard of the FAA pulling the registration for lost logs

I was going to say I've seen one recently, but it was this one!    It's sitting on the ramp at Scottsdale, KSDL.   I didn't go take a close look.

Yeah, whoever listed it is obviously not an airplane person but is willing to fill in the blanks with whatever they think sounds plausible. Some other gems:

including the 3 prop propellers.

Will need to remove the wings & disengage the fuel tanks in the wings, etc.

I saw that as well. You don’t know for sure until you look. It’s a cool relic from a different time. Would be nice if it gets saved. I’m shocked he bidding is at 20k. It’s going to take 80k+ to make it a reasonable flyer. Panel, interior, engine, Tanks…

Is there 20K in parts there if parted out?

It could be done

It would be unique- one of a kind

As much work (or more ) than a quick build  homebuilt

The Mooney caveat prevails- corrosion 

Would need someone who enjoys building more than flying

wasnt there a J on ebay recently that had the 3rd window mod? there where not any good pictures but it definitly had the extra windows added at some point.

I am also suprized that this one is already at $20K.... good luck to the buyer...

ASSUMING no corrosion, there is a lot of value there for the right buyer.  I wonder if it has been sitting outside for 20 years, or recently moved outside after grandfather passed away.  Could be no corrosion if it has been living in AZ all this time.  A lot of effort went into drag reduction on the airframe (201 windshield, late model over head vent and headliner retrofit, wingtips, etc.) and some other niceties like the 201 yokes and likely lots of other tidbits that aren't immediately obvious.  For $20k, it would be a great start for a full cosmetic and panel overhaul, as well as an engine IRAN at a minimum, but likely overhaul as well.  You're not overpaying for vintage equipment, so you can just plan on a full new panel to suit whatever goals you might have.  You'd pay far more than $20k for a modern quick-build airframe kit these days, so if building/tinkering is your thing this is a jump-start.  :)  I'd truck it home, gut the interior, strip the paint, install new windows, etc. while the engine got inspected and a new panel built up.

Scottsdale has been evicting small airplanes to make room for jets and other turbines for several years.   They probably made it impossible for these folks to sit on the airplane any more, so it's on the ramp with an ultimatum.    Scottsdale is not very tolerant of derelicts, as there really aren't any places where you can leave things that aren't visible to the general public.

So I'm guessing this just got forced out of wherever it had been kept and is now for sale since they don't have much choice.   From that perspective, it's probably been in Scottsdale for a long time, so corrosion may be less of a concern than for other airplanes that have sat for a while.   Southwest airplanes are good picks for restoration from that perspective.

FWIW, CAP has a Scottsdale squadron, but they got evicted, too, and now keep their airplane at Falcon.   They still have office space at Scottsdale, but the airplane got thrown out.  It's an increasing trend in airports all over the country.

Indeed. The listing states in bold that the aircraft must be off airport grounds by Dec 31 of this year.

Title of thread says 200HP...I've read the ad three times and can't find any mention of it having a 200HP engine.  What am I missing?

Seller is "Cars And More".  This may be the first airplane they have ever brokered.  Surprisingly, no report available from AutoCheck.  They should have tried AirplaneCheck instead.

Awww Scottsdale.

As is often the case with idiotic and lazy municipal airport staff, some savvy and enterprising person often finds a weak and corrupt government official to lease out airports in whole or to “manage” them - general aviation loses out, and the airports become crap for the average pilot….

Didn’t Palomar go through one of these price increases as they chased Jet $$$?

I think Hawthorne was leased out in whole to Levi / Main Street / advanced air for like $487k a year I recall. Rates doubled and near tripled in short order…

Camarillo and Oxnard refuse to sublease which makes them gems….

I think American Airports was finally and positively tossed out of LA County which effectively killed the company…

Greed - screws it up for everyone. Capitalism is great until it takes away from the public good
