Opinions on doing 500 hours inspection and repair on both mags at same time.

I’m having electronic ignition installed, both mags have 450 hours, pros and cons of having both done at same time, I feel there is to much risk working on both at same time.

Opinions would be appreciated

I did my Surefly one year (left/pilot mag), then the next year did the right mag.  A friend of mine (Kevin) bought his C, bought 2 overhauled ones and had nothing but issues for almost a year -- I lent him my backups (both left and right that had about 500 hrs) so he could get his home until the overhaul shop could correct it.  I think its best to do one at a time.

IRAN would suffice vs overhaul I believe since its more of an 'inspection' @ 500 hours.

If you're installing a Surefly, then why not just IRAN one of them and keep the other for core...

When I did my Surefly this past annual I was planning on IRAN for both to have a spare, but wound up having issues with the right mag (bill was going to be close to the price for a new mag)..so I just IRAN'd a single one and installed the Surefly for the right side.  I'll just put on a new left mag next 500 hr interval.

I would do one of whatever you are going to do at a time. Much easy to troubleshoot if you've only worked on one thing.

Also, keep in mind that the Bendix mags on your Acclaim are much better mags than the Slicks you had on the Bravo. If you are going to the SureFly for hot starts it's usually the technique coming from one airplane to another that causes the difficulty.

Well, I wan't too happy about it but I had both mags OHed at the same time as they were coming up on 500 hours. No issues. Maybe I was just lucky?

Overhauls are not needed at 500 hrs Only and IRAN

I've done mine IRAN with no issues and lots less cost

Just counselled another Mooney owner to do an IRAN and not expensive overhaul

He's happy.

The shop I use is a one man operation and he KNOWS mags Been doing them for decades.

regardless if you're doing 1 or 2 mags. I recommend aero accessories in Van Nuys. They do quick and good work. They had my mag IRAN'd over night.

Are you going surefly or electroair?

I can tell you Lance I still have difficulty with not starts. Tried many recommended methods. I guess it’s a Continental issue along with a stupid pilot. Never had an issue with lycoming. I recently offered to buy my Bravo back.

You're one of the sharpest people I know. I just sent you a private message with an idea.
