amillet Posted May 13, 2023 Report Posted May 13, 2023 My M20J has headset jacks on the pilot side of the center console. I’m embarrassed to admit I have never attempted to test/use these jacks in the 18 years I’ve owned 84L. If the primary jacks fail (I assume they’re connected through the audio panel) do you just plug into the emergency jacks? Will the push to talk button still work? Quote
toto Posted May 13, 2023 Report Posted May 13, 2023 I’m definitely not an expert, but most of the emergency jacks I have seen are not wired into the PTT on the yoke. The expectation is that you’ll plug the handheld microphone into the jack, and it will have an integrated talk button. Quote
RLCarter Posted May 13, 2023 Report Posted May 13, 2023 I don’t think they (aux jacks) are wired through the audio panel Quote
ArtVandelay Posted May 13, 2023 Report Posted May 13, 2023 If my pilot side jacks failed, I’d just use the copilot’s side, it would a little cumbersome to reach over to put PTT, but definitely doable. Quote
PT20J Posted May 14, 2023 Report Posted May 14, 2023 On my 1994 M20J, these jacks were part of the InterVOX AA80 intercom installation. The MIC jack was intended for use with the handheld mic which has an integral PTT switch; it doesn’t work with the yoke PTT. I added a PTT adjacent to the MIC jack to mine so I could use the headset mic. When I replaced the intercom and KMA 24 audio panel with a PMA 450B I left them in place connected to COM 1 since they were already there. This allows using them if the pilot’s PTT fails and also if the PMA 450B were removed for maintenance. Quote
