SMeestercpa Posted March 13, 2023 Report Posted March 13, 2023 Hello. I am thinking of replacing the insulation in my 1984 K. Does anyone know what thickness of this insulation that Spuce sells that I should use? Is there a better material out there than this stuff? Thank you, Steve https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/supersoundproofsheet.php?clickkey=59594 Quote
KSMooniac Posted March 13, 2023 Report Posted March 13, 2023 I used this SoundEx | Home (soundexproducts.com) in 3/4" and am happy with it. Cut-to-fit, and just wedged in place. I wouldn't want to glue anything in! 1 Quote
SMeestercpa Posted March 13, 2023 Author Report Posted March 13, 2023 (edited) Thank you Scott. Could you have gone thicker? Is it quieter? Warm enough? How much did you need? Steve Edited March 13, 2023 by SMeestercpa Quote

Steve It seems quieter, don't know about warmer or cooler but expect it is better. The real test will be a summertime flight sitting outside for a spell! I think I think I bought 4 sheets, but need one more to completely finish. This was for the roof all the way back to the hat rack area, and down into the baggage area. Previous owner replaced the sidewall portions under the windows. I don't think I could go thicker on the roof, but perhaps on the sides? If you could install 3" thick stuff, you'd still need a good headset so I don't know that it matters too much. Quote

Thank you, Steve https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/supersoundproofsheet.php?clickkey=59594 I used 1/2” super soundproofing with adhesive backing to insulate my cabin about 13 years ago. It sticks to aluminum but releases pretty easily (so far). It may have helped quite the noise a bit. I covered every surface and made ceiling inserts our of it. No rattles in the cabin. It seems to have truly helped even out temps in the cabin. The material has not deteriorated since installation. There is still a temp differential from front to back, but I don’t need to cook myself to keep the rear seat pax comfortable. Quote
