trevttu76 Posted February 17, 2023 Report Posted February 17, 2023 Figured it would make sense to start a thread on this instead of piggybacking on another thread and being off topic. Curious if this is my voltage regulator, and if so can anyone identify the model and say if it's adjustable or not (and where is the adjustment screw). My voltage is mid 13's (13.6 usually), but would really like to get closer to 14V for my Concord RG per the documentation for the battery. Doesn't feel like I am keeping my battery fully charged. This is mounted along a plate perpendicular to the firewall close to the glare shield (co-pilot side). Quote
KSMooniac Posted February 17, 2023 Report Posted February 17, 2023 That's it, but I cannot tell which one you have from the pic. I replaced my original 77/OEM 10+ years ago with a modern Zeftronics unit and would highly recommend it. I don't remember if the original is adjustable or not. Quote
Guest Posted February 17, 2023 Report Posted February 17, 2023 When you adjust the regulator, make sure you check the charge voltage at the battery, not all volt meters even those in a JPI monitor are accurate. Quote
Ragsf15e Posted February 18, 2023 Report Posted February 18, 2023 As doc said, you might want to check voltage several places before adjusting. Ideally check just off the alternator (carefully, with long cables), at your bus, and back at the battery. Good chance you see 14v off the alternator, but have a bad connection and are “losing” some through resistance somewhere else. Quote
OR75 Posted February 20, 2023 Report Posted February 20, 2023 in 77 / 78 many VR installed were OECO 20082. I am pretty sure the type and P/N is in the POH Equipment List section (weight and balance section) (if it has been changed, it should be in the airframe log book) This is what it looks like . Adjustable but not sure it is worth adjusting instead of moving to solid state as described above. Capacitors don't do great after 40 years + of good service 1 Quote
trevttu76 Posted February 21, 2023 Author Report Posted February 21, 2023 (edited) I was able to find two log entries where the VR was replaced. The last change has the model number (1st did not). I have a VR-415F, a Lamar unit!! Mystery solved. Thanks for the input here. Maybe the pic and model number will help someone else in the future. Still need to check voltage at a few suggested locations (battery and/or alternator). My digital cigarette lighter readout and engine monitor match, but as pointed out do not show what the battery is seeing. Edited February 21, 2023 by trevttu76 1 Quote
