I sent my old cable to Dicks speedo tach in Tempe AZ and they made me a new cable that works fine.  I first tried the cable aircraft spruce sells which did not work.  Spruce gave me all kinds of grieve trying to return it.

Why not replace with a digital tach?

That's what I did when my tach died. EI digital. No regrets.

I have a EI R-1 Tach brand new in the box sitting in my hangar. I had bought it and then upgraded my EDM-830 to a 900 so it was never used. It is configured for my 1965 D which is the same as a C. I can send you the settings it was configured with if you are interested and we can sort out a price. They are $549 new but it's just been gathering dust on the box for a couple years so I'm willing to part with it for less than that.

@Skates972000 to 2250 red area? If so, hit me up…

Hmmm, I found the listing I put up years back and the yellow is 2150-2300. In my POH it shows 2000-2250. I can't come up with an explanation for why it was ordered 2150-2300, unless that was the markings on the old tach and it was ordered based on those numbers. The tach that was in it at the time was installed in 1991 so maybe it had the wrong markings. That was long before I owned the plane. I'm curious now, I think I still have the tach at the hangar too, I'll have to check.

If you want to see what EI charges to reconfigure it maybe we can work out a middle ground somewhere.

Let me see what they say…

mine is definitely 2000-2250. Very odd since I’m sure the props we have should be similar…

I honest do not prefer the digital/LED tachs .

I have a JPI and like the read out on it but for now i want to retain the analog tach.

Robert Hicks please let me know if you find your old one.

Thanks,

I have this tach. It has worked perfectly for the 15 years or so I have had it. The only issue I have had with it is the pickup that screws in place of the tach cable keeps falling apart. I lock wired it together and it hasn't come apart since. They also have a mag pickup that probably wouldn't have this issue. The support from the factory was great. They will mark the face as you need it. Your tach problems will go away if you get one. And the price is right, and it is easy to install.

Any speedo shop can make a new one with the old for a pattern. Have done it that way for 50 tears.

A mechanical tach is only a speedometer with different markings.

You just need the cable to be wrapped the correct direction (L or R) and the drive end swaged on and

the other end squared in a hammer mold to the correct length. .

Could even qualify as an "Owner Designed Part" as you are supplying the design to make the part to

but normally I just sign it off as replaced tach cable.
