The PFD on the G3X has an AI not he top with vertical guidance bars on either side, and an HSI on the bottom with a CDI and two bearing pointers.

You can't see the vertical guidance bars on the AI because they're not active. they are green diamonds on each side.

the HSI shows the CDI in magenta, and two green bearing pointers. I don't find them very easy to see

Does the G3X have a VOR indicator for elevation and lateral guidance? I was wondering how you do ILS approaches. Mine has two. I believe that are for bringing in 2 VOR locations to give a fix for a plane location although I almost entirely use GPS.

As mentioned by rbp, you can switch the HSI to "green needles" (VLOC), and I also have my NAV2 setup to act as a bearing pointer.

Attached photos show an ILS.  It even shows the flight path boxes (pathways) when on autopilot.

That mic clip fits a mini Maglite perfectly!

Mine had an ear broken off, so I ground the other one off so that it's flat and stuck a pen holder on it.   That's been pretty handy.  ;)

Correct, I didn't have any bearing pointers on, just the basic HSI source.  (LOC1)

on an ILS, I was taught to set one bearing pointer to the LOM and the other to the primary navigation source of the missed

also, you don't show the approach chart overlayed on the RHS of the PFD?

That is a bit old school in my opinion.  You're allowed to use GPS for everything on an ILS except for tracking the localizer or navigation on the final approach segment.

So you're allowed to use GPS to identify fixes (i.e. LOM) and fly the missed on an ILS.  And I think the LOM is out of service here anyway.

I had the approach plate on my iPad (on my knee), but sometimes I do put it on the right side of the PFD.

unless you have an ADF, the LOM is always OTS :) of course I meant the FAF.

regarding the navaid for the missed, you're correct of course

maybe I'm old fashioned but bearing pointers on FAF and missed gives me a greater feeling of  situational awareness
