So, I came across an ICOM A-22 in a box that I lost maybe 15 years ago.  It seems to be dead, using fresh batteries (tested). ICOM has it on its list of no-longer-supported models.

Any thoughts where I might find someone to take a look at it?

I'm looking at an A21 and an A6 that I've had for a number of years.  They were not very intuitive, didn't show battery remaining, and I found them to be unreliable when it came to using them because of unknown battery remaining.  They're going into the trash tomorrow.   By the time you found someone to repair the A22, the cost would be more than a newer model that works and shows battery remaining.  Last year I bought a PJ2 from Sporty's for about $200.  It's easy to use, has a battery indicator, and uses AA batteries, so I don't have to worry about the battery discharging over time.  It is Comm only.  I never found the NAV/COMM handhelds were very good at navigation.  I have a handheld GPS, the Aera 760, on the yoke for so many reasons, including importantly as a GPS backup to failure of the panel mounted units.

So, I'd recommend getting a newer handheld such as the PJ2 and forgetting about the old A22.  In the end, I think you would be better off both economically and practically.

I found a guy who can fix it. his shop rate is $92/hr so its probably not worth it. after I "lost" the ICOM, I bought a YAESU, which I hate.

The Yaesu aircraft hand held I have is not the best user interface.

And I am a Yaesu fanboy, with at least 8 Yaesu ham radios around the house.

I borrowed a Yaesu ham radio (don't recall which) for a weekend event our ham group was volunteering for, and found it too complicated.  It was frustrating to use.

Just bought a PJ2+ for backup.  Few fancy features, an easy-to-read display, standard jacks for your headset.  With an external antenna it works about as well as the panel mounted com radios.

Well, when you have a lot of features, it can seem complicated at first. :D
