JetKeel Posted November 28, 2022 Report Posted November 28, 2022 Anyone flying a Mooney out of KAPA in Colorado and willing to let me go for a ride with them at some point in time? Preferably a J+, but anything would be great! I’m early in my journey (pre-solo but going to be there in the next couple of weeks) and I’m looking at buying a plane once I pass the 100 hour mark. Right now I’m targeting a Mooney for some family trips and building time, but haven’t sat in one yet. Would love to fly in one and more than willing to split cost or pay you if your license allows it. I’ve heard a few owners on ATC but haven’t been able to catch one on the ramp yet. Quote

Generally speaking, it is pretty hard for anyone to catch us without a turbine of some kind. 1 Quote

carusoam Posted November 28, 2022 Report Posted November 28, 2022 Well organized request JK! The search function might be able to find KAPA in MSer’s home drome data… It will definitely find posts with the airport being mentioned… Joe Z used to fly an acclaim out of there… Either way… the Mooney is the right plane to have, at 100 hours… Go Mooney! Niko182 Posted November 28, 2022 Report Posted November 28, 2022 I guess I should add if youre looking for a mooney, start looking for a hangar and get your self on waitlists asap. Hangars are affordable at BJC, erie, boulder, and all, but the wait times are the killers. I ended up getting lucky at 18V and met the right person at the right time. Finding that right person at the right time only took 7 months, so if you plan on getting a mooney within the year start looking asap for a hangar. You won't want to keep it outside. During winter, water creeps inbetween the sheet metal, freezes at night, and then thaw during the day. Its prett visible seeing the planes that have sat throught 2 or more winters based on looking at the condition of the sheet metal. Also add the worry about hail year round. I kept my plane outside at boulder for 6 months and got really lucky avoiding hail. Most people aren't so lucky. Just my 2 cents living here for less than a year. Quote

I don't regret the hangar rent for that year. Way better to be paying rent on an empty hangar than having your Mooney sit on the ramp. 1 Quote
