ilovecornfields Posted November 27, 2022 Report Posted November 27, 2022 I heard @jaylw314 does basicmed exams for Mooneyspacers for only $50 and 10 “likes.” Actually I didn’t hear this, but based on this discussion I’m almost tempted to give up my Class 2 and go basicmed now. Does anyone know if you need to still get a medical every 10 years or does they only apply to your first basicmed? 1 1 Quote

First one only, or if you ever fail to maintain Basicmed standards. i.e., if you have to get off BasicMed due to health issues, you need a Class III again to get back on the train. This is my recollection, anyway... 1 Quote

LOL, I'm guessing nobody will want me treating their high blood pressure or sleep apnea! Another nice side effect is that you can still keep BasicMed current if you have a condition that is not automatically disqualifying and temporary, like recovering from hip surgery. You'd be hard pressed to renew with your AME if you were due 4 weeks afterwards, but with BasicMed you'd just keep it current going through your recovery Edit: oops, you only need a valid medical after 2006 like @midlifeflyer said Edited November 27, 2022 by jaylw314 4 Quote

That is incorrect. "10 years" became kind of a mantra since it went into effect July, 2016. But the legislation and the rules say you need to have had a valid medical any time after July 14, 2006. Says so in the statute and in FAR 61.23. 12 hours ago, ilovecornfields said: Does anyone know if you need to still get a medical every 10 years or does they only apply to your first basicmed? That has never been a BasicMed requirement. An FAA medical that was valid in July 2006 is the only FAA medical certificate prerequisite. Edited November 27, 2022 by midlifeflyer 2 Quote
