Welcome!  There are a huge number of people here who have done it.  Several will be along shortly.

BTW, with that registration number, your K must be a Rocket.  Have you had it long?  What has your experience been with the airplane and engine.?

Welcome!   And....  Now you've done it!!!  Started the whole debate over again!  :D

Get ready for more opinions than do you get an iPad with or without GPS.  Or between Coke or Pepsi...  and then those that want Tab!

I didn't want to be a full Garmin panel (if they hose their software not everything will have an issue).  So I ended up with an Aspen Pro Max as my PFD and a Garmin GI275.  Radios, transponder, audio panel are all Garmin.  But you may want a Garmin PFD or maybe go with the Dynon.

So far I've had no major issues.  I did have my GTN650 go down once a few flights after a software issue.  So a minor pain to get to the avionics guy and figure out what the issue was, but not a flight stopper.

My best recommendation is to come up with your first choice and look at the costs and availability.  I think things have gotten better, but some items were back ordered for months.  If everything fits in your budget and looks like it could be available, then get some feedback with those that have those devices and find out about an "gotchas" they may have run across.  Might be in the installation or might be with the day to day operations.

Also find out how many of devices you're looking at has the shop you're talking to installed!  Heard some horror stories where good shops had big issues the first time they installed some units.  The configuration can be a royal pain if you're not familiar.  You want to make sure you're not paying for their training.

What do you have now?   MANY combinations that work.

One consideration, do you have speed brakes?  The factory install are vacuum operated.  So to get totally rid of the vacuum system, you would need to convert them to electric.  Which is not really a conversion, it is a full replacement.

My vacuum system has been removed.  I have an Aspen 1000 and a Garmin G5.

I'm looking at a picture of N305LS on line and it doesn't look like you have speed brakes, which would have been vacuum if they had been installed in the 80's so you won't need it for those

Beautiful airplane - it looks like it started out as a 231 and then someone added the rounded windows, maybe when it was re-painted. Nice touch. If you get a chance post a picture of your new panel.

Welcome aboard Al!

The first guy to dump the vacuum system from a Mooney was a real computer guy…

In his spare time… he started MS!

What is your preference…

Are you a fan of the big G?

Or do you like anything but big G?

There is lotso experience around here to select from…

Once you know what you want…

Do you have any current pics of your panel?

It always helps to know what you have, to know what you need to go with them…

Best regards,
