BDPetersen Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 My AI just called to see if I had any Aeroshell #6 grease. I don’t. Apparently there is a production problem (fire?) that won’t be resolved until spring, according to a supplier I contacted. It’s a prop grease. So if you are sitting for a case or two, now is your chance to cash in. The supplier said Aeroshell might know of an alternative. Fortunately it’s not a current need of mine. Quote
Skates97 Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 @Cody Stallings has posted many times about using Aeroshell #5 instead of #6 in props. Here is one of the posts. Quote
PT20J Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 Here's a thread on BeechTalk with a post including a Hartzell document for substitution of AS 5. https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=202803 Skip Quote
BDPetersen Posted February 22, 2022 Author Report Posted February 22, 2022 I’m not sure if the production issue is for #6 or if it’s for all Aeroshell grease(s). Quote
takair Posted February 22, 2022 Report Posted February 22, 2022 I understand the production facility for both types burned down. Aeroshell 5 and 6 is like gold now, if you need it. Aircraft Spruce had said April at the earliest. Quote
MikeOH Posted February 23, 2022 Report Posted February 23, 2022 One more data point: my A&P tells me it affects ALL aviation greases His story of the factory burning down matches one of the above. He is NOT nearly so optimistic about an April recovery...more like, "who knows when???" 1 Quote

1980Mooney Posted February 23, 2022 Report Posted February 23, 2022 It’s just as well that Aeroshell #6 is not available. They made a change in its formulation a while back and it is suffering premature separation of the mineral oil. Van’s is reporting the problem too https://vansairforce.net/community/showthread.php?t=178968 My Hartzell is streaking the blades and throwing on my windscreen. It is currently in a Hartzell shop for a reseal with Nyco GN3058 a lithium synthetic grease. Hartzell no longer uses Aeroshell on new props https://hartzellprop.com/SERVICE-DOCUMENTS/SL/HC-SL-61-366.pdf 1 Quote
