On our M20F we are getting an intermittent problem where after gear retraction we are getting a horn and the light in the gear retraction override button is illuminated.  Both the gear down and gear unsafe lights are extinguished when we get the horn.  If we extend the gear, the horn goes out and we get a normal gear down light as well as a light on the floor indicator between the seats.  Sometimes cycling the gear will make the horn stop but lately it just stays on until the gear is down again.  Based on the light being on in the gear retraction override button it seems as though the airplane thinks it's still on the ground with the gear up, but it never stops us from retracting the gear after takeoff.

This particular M20F has a 'squat' switch on the left main gear.  Any thoughts before I have a mechanic swing the gear countless times trying to track down an intermittent problem?

My C did this several winters back, also had slow IAS. I replaced all the landing gear pucks [11 total], and it has not happened since.

The pucks get old and hard and don't expand after takeoff, so the horn sounds and the gear are not all the way up. New pucks taxi and land like magic!

Since the gear unsafe light is off, the gear must be fully retracted and hitting the up switch. I would guess something to do with the squat switch.

Cold weather and squat switches become a challenge when the donuts are old…

Old donuts don’t uncompress very quickly…. And they get compressed even more than when they were new…

Check the donut test….

PP thoughts only,
