PT20J Posted January 10, 2022 Report Posted January 10, 2022 Anyone have this problem? I tried to remove a micro SD card from the G5 today and it hung up and wouldn't come out. I had to tease it out with a dental pick. Seemed to be one particular card, though I couldn't see anything obviously wrong with it. The bottom of the display glass is the top of the slot and the top of the card has a little ridge to grab it by. It's pretty easy for the ridge to get hung up on the glass. Skip Quote
carusoam Posted January 15, 2022 Report Posted January 15, 2022 Precision polymer meets precision glass… polymers are a bit amorphous and have a tendency to not be as precise as intended…or expected… They can even change shape over time or after significant heat cycles… So it might be just the individual card… Next step…. Modify the plastic part… easier to replace if you accidentally mangle it… And wait and see if anyone else is seeing the same challenge… Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
jamesm Posted January 15, 2022 Report Posted January 15, 2022 The micro SD's aren't easiest to handle, especially after I have cut my thumb nails. I believe either the maintenance or installation manual (at least the earlier version did) called out a specific manufacture / brand of Micro SD card. If you haven't all ready tried a brand specific micro sd card. I have been using SanDisk mirco SD card seems work ok other than these are tiny and sometimes fingers fumbles such small sd card. Quote
PT20J Posted January 16, 2022 Author Report Posted January 16, 2022 It seemed limited to one card (so far). Though I could not see a difference, it might be slightly warped. I just noticed that the way the G5 is designed the hard edge of the glass forms the top of the slot and the little lip on the card that is supposed to help you grab it can catch there. It seemed like a bad mechanical design and I just wondered if others had an issue. For now, I just threw the offending card away. I never put labels on SD cards because that is well known to cause hangs in some products. Quote
laytonl Posted January 16, 2022 Report Posted January 16, 2022 I had the same problem last week with a new SD card in my GTN650. Lee Quote
