Good suggestion.  Honestly, I hadn't thought about this until you mentioned it.  I'll look into it

If you end up doing this please shoot me a PM.

100% spot on , yet people keep comparing the two , as equals , They are not...

Why do you say that? I'm planning my panel, and had come to the conclusion that the G3x/G5 combo gave better reversionary capabilities and equivalent functionality elsewhere. I know the G500Txi has a better display, but that didn't seem enough to offset the lower cost and better reversionary capabilities of the G3x/G5 pair.

I deal everyday with the shops that install these , and they all agree the TXI is superior to the 3x

Ask @StevenL757. He's removing a G3X for a G500TXi.

Over the next 1 to 2 months

  • Prop overhaul

3 to 6 months out, based on what I know about current availability/scheduling

  • Paint consult, scheduling & accomplishing paint job
  • Upgrade/add cockpit equipment and revise layout (remove G3X, EIS, GAD29B, G5, GMA35C audio).  Add GI275, G500TXi, GTN650Xi, PMA450C audio.

Well, thought I'd share an update since it's been awhile.  Unfortunately, like every project, I've added a few things to the original list.  I crossed off things that we've already done.  Huge kudos to Acorn Welding in Canada for the amazing looking exhaust job.  $4,400 later, but it turned out better than a brand new system.

Whole project is taking a lot longer than I anticipated, but I have to keep telling myself that I'm essentially cramming nearly 8 years of upgrades I did to my previous Ovation into about a year with this airplane.  I know it will come out looking amazing.  Just hard to be patient.  Heading back down to TX in a couple of weeks when the engine arrives, so am finally looking forward to that.  I can almost see the light...  :-)Resized_20220525_142044.JPG.edd05794f0d2e8aa57c2ed94f27c8f24.JPG

I like the heat shield pads on the cowling, it will eliminate the blistering that comes with a compact, streamlined closure. You might want to add some High-temp shielding around the engine mount tubes and shield the prop governor cable also, those need protection.

Yes, we have that in the plan.

What material did you use for heat shield on the cowling?  Also, what did you use for adhesive?  I bought some shielding material from Aircraft Spruce, and got the spray adhesive of the same brand, but I wonder how well it will hold.  Mechanic says "It'll be fine"!

firesleeve and stainless standoffs

I see how the firesleeve is done -- got some of that protection now.  But I don't know what is under the channels protecting the engine mount that causes them to stand off?  Thanks.

Any suggestions for the material and method of attachment?

Sorry for my delay replying here.  I’m heading down to TX tomorrow…let me ask my IA on Sunday when I see him, as I don’t remember off the top of my head.

It is a little hard to see. The attachment is just a 'Z' shaped piece riveted to the SS shield and hose clamped to the engine mount. This is the backside of the heat shield. the hose clamp is just hanging on the standoff, It rotates 90° to clamp to the engine mount and the end of the standoff to the right side of the clamp in this picture.  image.jpeg.e1dfb8b21f4260bf4362016c73e75474.jpeg

The material on my cowling above is Gentex 1081.  The sealant is (heat-resistant) RTV106.
