It does need to be unclipped for me to change tanks and to reach across to close the door prior to takeoff on a hot day, so the intertial reel might provide a bit of benefit there.

I cut the hinge off of mine, and am able to hold it in the pilot's window with just the plastic window lock in the airplane.  I painted it red just so you do not forget that it is there.

Not that I'm aware. I used one of their covers, sanded it. Painted it. Made a label with a label maker and clear tape. Applied it, and clear coated over it. it looked good. Sold the plane. Never installed it
