I went to the airport and did my first night landings in my new (to me) Eagle. Well I'm now night current, but being my first night landings in about 12 years they were not pretty. Two were automatic go-arounds. Too much fumbling for switches, and controls. In the dark, you need to know where everything in the cockpit is without thinking. Taxiways are dark and can be confusing at night, thank goodness for Safe Taxi on the Garmin. Two more sessions and I think I'll feel safe taking passengers at night. Just wanted to vent, my ego is a little bruised.

The good thing is.......first......that you are getting back in to it...and second.......you recognize that you are slightly behind the curve. Congrats on the Eagle and I am sure the next two sessions wil be well woth it.

Bruce,

Thanks for sharing...I would recommend finding a Mooney familiar CFI to give you a couple hours of dual instruction.  Getting back into flying after years is tough, doing it in a "new to you" airplane is even harder.

I'd encourage you to make the small investment (+/-$100) in training.  it'll pay huge dividends in proficiency and comfort as you get back in the swing of things.
