The other day as I returned for a landing, I went to extend my gear.  I never got the “gear unsafe” on the annunciator panel.  The gear cycled down and gear down on the panel was lit, as well as the gear locked was showing on the floor.  Reading in the POH, it states that the gear unsafe light is lit during retraction, but doesn’t say anything about extension.  It’s been a while since I have flown it lately, as we just put an engine in it, but if my memory serves me correctly, that gear unsafe light was lit anytime the gear was in transit.  Both up and down.  What cycles that light on and off? If it’s a micro switch that does, does it control the actuator starting and stopping, or is it nothing more than to illuminate that light?  I’d like to fly it tomorrow, but anything in the gear makes me leery.  We swung the gear last week after the engine change and all was well.

B,

Did you mention testing the annunciator to see if the bulb was lit?

Reviewing the gear operations probably includes a few relays... or position sensor switches...

The logic is in the annunciator panel... which can need a rebuild if that isn’t working...

PP thoughts only,

For gear annunciations there’s no logic, just lights turned on by switches. You’ll need to pull the belly panel, it’s possible it’s just stuck and can be loosen up with electronic cleaner. This happens with flaps limit switches as well.

Wow. The "Gear Unsafe" light in my C is lit whenever the "Gear Down" green light is off . . . . There is a barber pole showing on the mechanical indicator in the floor while it's in transit, but I never have time to watch for it.

I didn’t, but I should have.  Yes, I pressed the annunciator panel, light works fine.
thanks,

I would “assume” it’s lit whenever a limit switch doesn't have continuity.

That’s an Assumption, and we all know what that is, but maybe it will shake out someone who knows what turns on the light.
