My transponder crapped out and the repair station said the part needed for the fix is no longer available. I'm wanting to know if anybody has a KT 76C gathering dust that they would like to sell.

I think mine had the same problem...

The easy solution was buy something from the reaper...  @Alan Fox

I got a digital upgrade, push buttons, and pressure (?) altitude display...

And it works with my ADSB out rebroadcast...

Best regards,

See what’s different in my pic...   :D

Looks like an inverted Func under the 0 key...

So... we know the reflection is fake.  What was the point of putting it there?

A black box, on a black background, with a fake reflection...

we’ll sell dozens of these things... :)

Imagine the feeling a marketing guy gets after he has printed a million brochures... and the first customer says ... ‘what’s with that?’

The design engineers have made our new device functionally simple... let’s make it look bizarre and confusing... in a high tech way!  :)

Best regards,

That brochure is bizarre.  Very observant Anthony!  I must have had a subliminal impulse to fix it (very late last night), perhaps since I have one of those in my panel.  Right above my DME 890 (which I refused to remove).  The DME has a new display from Digikey so it should be functional for awhile.  I’m based just south of the Beale (permanent) TFR and it’s too easy to dial up 108.6 and KNOW that I’m outside the 10 mile ring, in concert with my moving map.

Hmmmm.   BK AND Narco in my panel... is that a reflection on me?

Is it just the amp in the transponder? Most shops have a pile of dead transponders they can look for a good amp in.

I haven't received the report for the shop, but the symptoms were that the mode C altitude reporting would not be sent to ATC - but only sporadically. They were not happy when that happened.

Thought of that but I have an ICARUS SAM GPS Steering unit installed and it too uses the encoder. A few years ago the original encoder bit the dust and the SAM unit sensed it and displayed an error message. No such message has been showing up. Add to the mix that the SAM unit is correctly announcing various altitudes that I set it for and the GUMPS warning has been spot on.

OK.  Very interesting.  Please share with us what the shop finds to be the problem.  I am intrigued.

Sounds like you they won’t. They’re suggesting a new transponder? It’s probably worth a second opinion. I had the same situation. Went to another shop and they fixed it for $50. Just better skilled electronics level repairmen. It’s a lost skill that most younger avionics guys probably never learn.

They said they can't locate the required part. Fact of the matter is, it will be less expensive to obtain a used unit than have them attempt to fix the existing one. Then there is the time involved with sending it off to another shop and paying for their time to diagnose it. My partners and I are currently grounded until we get a working unit back into the panel.

Trig TT31 is also a slide-in replacement for the old King stuff. I believe the King KT74 is a TT31 with a different face plate.

It is, and so is the Avidyne AXP340 but the KT74 &AXP340 have much better user interfaces than the Trig.

Is the KT76A TSO a slide in replacement (or acceptable to you)?  If so, I've got one you can have for the cost of shipping.  It was working fine when I upgraded to ADS-B Out a few years ago; been stored in a drawer in my house since.  comes with tray.
