I was doing my first oil change thank goodness for mooneyspace as other threads listed torque values for the oil filter spark plugs etc. I noticed that on the turbo side i had a loose wire. Upon further investigation I noticed the same wire on the non turbo side that was connected to a spring to what i guess is the forward baffle but what it’s connected to the back I haven’t a clue. I took pictures and i hope someone can tell me what the function of the wire spring is for and if i have to get another one before i can fly or just put it on when i have the cowl off again. Also if someone does know what it is can you please tell the the part number or where i can buy another one? Thanks.

That wire goes through the rear baffling bottom, under the cylinders, and terminates at the forward lower baffling. It's purpose is the pull the front and rear lower baffling against the cylinders so that airflow around those front and rear cylinders is forced through the cylinder fins. There should be a spring on the wire where it inserts into the rear baffling to keep it tight with the spring compressing when the hooked and is hooked into the front baffling hole.

Looks like neither of yours is fully functional. This is a TCM baffling part, you can look up any TCM part number on TCM's web site. I'd expect to fix this you'll need a new hole in the rear baffling since the old hole is probably cracked it thus no longer able to hold it in place - which is common including several holes in the rear baffling after several cracks/breaks.

A lot of people use a safety wire as a temporary fix.  If you do, be careful that the wire doesn’t rub the oil return lines or anything else important.  Best thing to do is get a replacement.  Lee

Thanks for the info! Will order asap. Ironically cylinder #3 is my hottest cylinder and it’s in the middle. Are the left and right the same part number? I’ll just go ahead and replace both since one has already failed. The other probably is not long before it will fail too. My #2 cylinder is cooler than the rest of the cylinders at over 40 degrees and it stays that way ROP or LOP and it’s in the very back. Any suggestions as to why that one cylinder would run so much cooler?

@Clarence your parts catalog part number 32 looks like the part I need. However the TCM illustration looks different and list 2 part numbers 641346 fastener baffle 641347 spring compression. Can you tell me if I need one or the other or both?
thanks,

sincerely confused.

Those parts are the Continental inter cylinder baffles.  The ones in my post are the Mooney baffles.  I’ll get you some part numbers.
