Im trying to get some touch up pain for my 1975 Mooney M20F. The color is the base which is a sort of white/lite gray. Does anyone know the original color or how to best match it?

Even if you found the paint code, new paint would not match, due to fade/wear of the paint currently on the airplane.

Instead, suggest you remove an inspection panel, take it to an automotive paint shop, and ask them to color match it.  The machines they use for this provide excellent results - certainly a better match than you'll get with just a paint code or color name.  Though you should call first to confirm, just about any automotive paint shop can make you up a small quantity of rattle cans, touch-up bottles, etc.  It will be kind of expensive in small quantities vs. house paint, but still cheap in aviation monetary units.

An auto body supply store with a color matching camera is your best bet.  You’ll need a section of panel a little bigger than a business card.  Polish the section to be photographed with fine scratch remover otherwise the match will be too dark.

And for fun...

You can find the paint codes and names and original paint type in the early pages of your airframe‘s first log book...

But for reality... take an access panel With all the various colors you want to the auto paint places mentioned above...

Select the panel with the best paint quality... some have seen too much sun....

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

Not mine, the flight test entries and instruments test is all I have.
