MisfitSELF Posted August 25, 2020 Report Posted August 25, 2020 Dropped off my airplane two weeks ago at the avionics shops for an upgrade. Shop said they are ready to go so I wrote them a big check so they can order the parts from Garmin. Now it's sat for two weeks not doing a thing because they claim that Garmin is backlogged....shipping delays do to 'rona….yada yada yada. Meanwhile I'm getting all kinds of stuff from Amazon and Aircraft Spruce within a day or two of ordering. So what's the story, does anybody know if Garmin is really backlogged or is my shop giving me a run around? Quote
StevenL757 Posted August 25, 2020 Report Posted August 25, 2020 They are not backlogged as of late last week. I'm working with my shop on some stuff on the side, and they are getting everything they need within a few days of ordering. Steve Quote

Why don’t you call Garmin and ask them if the shop has ordered your things. I have found that shops respond quickly when Garmin gets involved. Quote
RobertGary1 Posted August 25, 2020 Report Posted August 25, 2020 I think it’s always like that. Happened to me too. They have on and off delays for certain stuff. -Robert Quote

I was about to pick up the phone to Garmin to ask but for whatever reason I called my avionics shop first today and found out they got the hardware yesterday and started working on the airplane. PT20J Posted August 26, 2020 Report Posted August 26, 2020 No shop I deal with requires advance payment. I think Garmin dealers get net 30 payment terms. I’m curious if other MSers are paying up front. Skip Quote

Skip I’m about to do an upgrade and all the shops I’m dealing with are requiring anywhere from 20% to 60% up front...These are all pretty large and well known installers in the southeast. Quote
Keith20EH Posted August 26, 2020 Report Posted August 26, 2020 Just paid 60% up front, but waited to bring my E in until everything showed up. Can’t wait to see the end result... 1 Quote

When they get the materials paid for they are only risking their labor at that point. Quote
Greg Ellis Posted August 26, 2020 Report Posted August 26, 2020 When I did my panel upgrade 2 years ago to include the ADS-B out, I paid a certain portion down so avionics could be ordered. I then paid the balance on completion. I had no issue doing this. And just to add, when I did my upgrade, Garmin was back ordered on the G5. It was and still is quite popular. Quote
