More impact here than AOPA speaking on our behalf?  I will not ever volunteer for a tax increase.  I believe that this is NOT the time to increase any taxes.  This is a time for the government at every level to do what I do.  Establish a budget and live within it.  Make some tough choices.  Cut where you need to.  That said I am an AOPA member and empower them to lobby on my behalf for general aviation.  I know they live in the very real fear of establishment of "user fees" for general aviation.  Why a tax increase?  Why now?

Yeah, this petition echoes the AOPA standpoint that they would rather see fuel tax than user fees.

Fuel tax could be lowered at some point.  If they get a user fee program setup this will never go away and only bloat and swell as the government does with any of their programs.

I signed, after reluctantly agreeing to create an account on whitehouse.gov.  I almost accidentally checked the box to get other "updates" from the prez...egads, don't we hear from him enough?

Raise user fees or taxes NO WAY.  Taxes never go away even with sunset clauses.  Why do some airports need a manned control tower through most of the night when they may have only one or two flights come in?  My opinion if an airport has a tower and during the night time hours does not see an average of 4 flights per hour between 8pm and 6 am the time the tower is open should be curtailed.  KNEW only has people in the tower 8am to 6pm daily.

The FAA shut down and planes didn't fall out of the sky.  Life went on.  If shutdowns could happen to a lot of the rest of our government, I'd be pretty happy.  We can't afford more debt, and that applies if you're a conservative, moderate, or liberal.

After great headaches signing this petition, (the Whitehouse website is not Mac Firefox friendly) I am finally signer 2574.

Sadly, this petition is all just pissing in the wind. It's kind of like a suggestion box and means very little. In my attempts to sign this thing, I got a look at some of the other petitions. Everything from disclosing the knowledge of extratrestrial life to saving sharks. The two highest in terms of signatures, were disbanding the TSA (about 38,000 signatures) and legalizing and regulating marijuana the same as alcohol (about 22,000 signatures).

except the FAA lost 1B in tax revenues all over a pissing match about 125 million in EAS funding.  Like quitting your job to save the gas money to commute.

Of course FAA inspectors worked for free, becuase they have a safety critical job.  Just imagine what would have happend if they rammed a couple 767s together becuase of short staffed controllers. It can happen.

Yeah, but my point is that it's $1B that'll get spent and taxed elsewhere.  We'd collect enough money on April 15 every year to fund the FAA, if we didn't spend so dang much everywhere else.

I'm pretty happy that I bought my airline tix the day after the shutdown.  It was a marginal decision if I'd make a personal weekend trip to Texas, and spending less on airfare helped push me over the edge.
