ArtVandelay Posted May 30, 2020 Report Posted May 30, 2020 The white is probably “Matterhorn” white.Tom Quote
RLCarter Posted May 30, 2020 Report Posted May 30, 2020 Paint codes my be in your logbooks, if not take an inspection cover off or a small (flatfish) piece to an auto paint store and the can tale a picture and mix it up for you. Be sure to tell them you want one shot paint (not base coat clear coat) 1 Quote

PT20J Posted May 31, 2020 Report Posted May 31, 2020 A lot of details... Paint specs are in the IPC by serial number. They might be in the AFM. If you take a panel (the tail access panel generally has all three colors) to an auto paint store, be sure to tell them you want an exact match. Often they will use a computer match to the nearest standard auto paint color. This may be good enough for light colors but can be noticeably off for dark colors. You will have to decide on the type of paint you want. Aircraft are painted in two part polyurethanes which must be mixed with a hardener (which is an isocyanate and toxic if inhaled). After mixing, the paint has a pot life of less than a day. You can get the paint and hardener and do touch ups with a brush. You can also spray it (wear a respirator), but since there is no clear coat, it is very difficult to blend it. For touch ups, you might want to skip the mixing and just get enamel. Be sure to sand the area and apply Pre-Kote and an etching primer before painting. That picture of a control surface has corrosion under the paint that needs to be completely removed before painting.
