dan nephin Posted December 5, 2019 Report Posted December 5, 2019 Hey guys, I have been trying to improve my brakes, pedal travel as it seems excessive to me. We have replaced cylinder seals, hoses ,pads and rotors. We have flushed and purged the system several times with no improvement. We have capped the system at the calipers and the pedals are hard with about 1/8 in travel. I noticeted that the right calipers seems to move angularity when they are applied, the top moving away from the tire. Has anyone had issues with the torque plate being worn that would allow this? steingar Posted December 5, 2019 Report Posted December 5, 2019 (edited) Might need to rebuild the calipers. When they get old they can get hard to move. Edited December 5, 2019 by steingar Quote
dan nephin Posted December 5, 2019 Author Report Posted December 5, 2019 Calipers have been resealed and are I good shape. I was thinking the bores where the guide pins are worn, allowing the calipers to deflect more than normal. Quote
gsxrpilot Posted December 5, 2019 Report Posted December 5, 2019 I'm about to upgrade the calipers on my 252. When that happens, I'll the original factory calipers. 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted December 5, 2019 Report Posted December 5, 2019 you might need to replace the pins or the mounting plate. Quote
Yetti Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 Might try going to the long body dual piston calibers. That being said the surface area of the pads are about twice as big as my mtn bike. So it is going to be hard to improve. Quote
Yetti Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 make sure the slidy pin rail things the calipers slide on are clean and silicone oil lubed. At least that is what needs to happen on older model Ford truck brakes Quote
Seth Posted December 6, 2019 Report Posted December 6, 2019 Mine were mushy a few years back and I flushed and flushed and flushed and flushed the system and finally they got better after we got some syrupy old fluid out. Maybe just flush and flush and flush and flush again? -Seth Quote
