mulro767 Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 Anybody use it before? Results? Did you thin it? I know many prefer flat black spray paint as well. My wing walk is faded black, or grey, and shows fuel seeps when talk is full. It needs some cosmetic touch-up. Quote

OR75 Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I removed the old wing walk with a standard gel type paint remover. Then applied primer zinc chromate. And the wong walk. most difficult is to protect the plane polyurethane paint. Make sure you stir the wing walk compound well as the sand tend to settle at the bottom. Quote
Immelman Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I used it, and if I were to do it again I would thin it slightly. It got a but clumpy in spots w/o thinner. Quote
bnicolette Posted August 11, 2011 Report Posted August 11, 2011 I just redid my wing walk two months ago. I didn't thin it, but I did stir it REALLY well. When you think it's stirred enough, stir some more! Outstanding results and am very happy with it. All I did was clean the area extremely well and applied with a cheap paint brush. Very easy to do and really makes the airplane look good. Quote
mulro767 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Report Posted August 13, 2011 Just finished applying it. Piece of cake! Looks great. Thanks guys. Quote
Txbyker Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 A large section of my wing walk peeled off in flight and now I really need to reapply. The rest of the walk looks pretty good. Does anyone know if Randolp can be applied over existing areas? Also, anyone heard of Ultra Wingwalk? Looks new. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/ultrawingwalk.php Quote
jwilkins Posted April 6, 2012 Report Posted April 6, 2012 I've used flat black paint (Krylon exterior) when the only issue was the wing walk fading out to grey; worked good after a very thorough Aircraft Simple Green scrubbing. If your fuel seeps are around screws you might try to find Don Maxwell's article about sealing the weeping screws. He suggested Permatex aviation form-a-gasket. I didn't even need to drain the tank; just take the screw out, coat with the form-a-gasket and reinstall. Worked like a champ and was still dry after two years. This won't help if the seam is weeping, but it sure fixed the screws in the wingwalk area. I used a dental pick to clean out the head of the screw to get a good grip on it to back it out. Jim Quote
Txbyker Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 I replaced part of my wing walk today. I bought some UltraWingWalk but ended up just buying the 3M wing walk peel and stick sheet like I had on it to repair a small section at the top over the fuel inspection plate. Anyway there was some sort of clear compound around the edges that I am thinking may have helped keep wind, rain, soap, etc from seeping under the leading edge. Would anyone happen to know what kind of RTV like compound would be good to seal the edges of the wing walk? Quote
fantom Posted April 29, 2012 Report Posted April 29, 2012 3M Safety Walk Edge Sealing Compound @ Home Depot, Lowe's or Aircraft Spruce. About ten bucks. Quote
