Bob_Belville Posted June 21, 2019 Report Posted June 21, 2019 There was a long thread on the subject of the Mooney SI which was based on and referred to a warning from the prop folks. I think there's testimony there that the engine folks are about as cautious about using their engine eye bolts as the prop folks are about supporting weight on their prop. Shops have been using tail weights for as long as there have been Mooneys. I use a tail weight that prevents motion up or down (unlike the floor chain or the engine hoist). 1 Quote
Planegary Posted June 26, 2019 Report Posted June 26, 2019 Here is mine. It came with the plane was kinda tough to lift it up and put it in the baggage compartment without hitting the sides. Hehehe 7D9512D3-8D42-4E62-8F46-9B70AF13E5BE.MOV Quote

I use tail weight fastened to the tail tie down anchor as do most I’m sure. As long as the tail tie down hasn’t been ground thin by contact with the ground there is little danger of breakage in my opinion. Clarence Quote

Two bags of sacreate each side. 1" tubular webbing with a stainless carabiener. So you need about 230lbs. It will work with 2 bags.... but is sketchy I agree, it looks sketchy 1 Quote
Joe Larussa Posted June 26, 2019 Report Posted June 26, 2019 I used a musicians road case and old airplane tire under the tail tiedown. I pulled the engine and swung the gear. As I remember, this worked perfectly. Quote
carusoam Posted September 1, 2020 Report Posted September 1, 2020 Welcome aboard, LS... Who are you asking, and what are you asking about... The bags of sakrete are clearly marked... Yetti detailed his answer... Best regards, -a- Quote

Depends on how many Fender Super Twin Reverb's are in it (about 80 lbs each). I've seen a bushel galvanized steel tub almost filled with sakrete with an extra 2 ea. 40 lb. bags of pea gravel on top. That weighs about 240 lb, or 3 Super Twin Reverb's Quote
carusoam Posted September 2, 2020 Report Posted September 2, 2020 Redefining the phrase... If you have to ask how much.... You may get your answer in odd units... such as Fender-Amps.... Yeah.... that tub over there is three FAs.... Is it possible to have a ‘slow’ day on MS? Best regards, -a- Quote
