A local FBO is putting on a charity poker run, that includes flying to 5 local airports, to benefit a local children's house here in Northwest Arkansas. The entry fee is $100 and with that you get breakfast, lunch and a plane washing/cleaning. The best poker hand gets a new iPad 2 with a years subscripton to Foreflight. There will also be a spot landing contest at one of the airports with a nice eletronic prize as well. It's set up for next weekend, June 11 and as of now there are two Mooney's registered so the more the better. Check out www.take-off-for-kids.com for more info.

Yeah, no doubt! I've already got an iPad w Foreflight but I wouldn't turn down another. Great program and super cheap considering what all comes with it. Now that they have added the geo referenced plates and taxi diagrams it's even more delicious.

I know what you mean. I have a first generation pad with FF.  Loaned it to our favorite Cessna pilot and our CFI for IFR.  He is headed to Yellowstone. Funny now that it is gone for two weeks, I really miss it.

How does a poker run with airplanes work? Does it mean you have to fly to and land at five different airports?

Well the poker run was fun as well as raising 5k for the kids home. I didn't win any swag but I did get to pass a ton of Cessnas and Pipers on the various legs of the flight. One guy with a Turbo Arrow took it pretty hard. :)

The 99's in our area had a poker run, and then some dork got involved in telling them its illegal.  The 99's, a bunch of little old ladies (with all due respect), being threatened with someone informing the state that they are running an illegal gambling ring for charity!

Anyway, at the last minute they replaced it with a quiz/treasurehunt.  Which was way more awesome (for us) than a poker run, because we filled out quiz questions and my partner one a B-17 ride, which you have way more control over than a random hand of cards.

Jetdriven is thinking of my speed at the Galveston air race.  My average was 184 mph.  :) It was fun flying fast.

We flew that one burning 6.5 GPH and 100 knots, it was the first weeked we owned the plane.  We came in dead last behind Ercoupes and everything, but we won 2 out of the 4 prizes.    And then did 170 knots all the way home.

To be honest, Jim, we jusat didnt know how to fly it.  We had 4 people in it, ot oustide, at 2000', and 23"-2500 RPM and leaned just past peak.  It would lose a lot of power, this was before the fine wire plugs and injectors.  Stlll, at such a low altitude, our planes don't seem very efficient. At 7,000' is a different story.
