Hector Posted June 15, 2018 Report Posted June 15, 2018 Anyone know who is manufacturing doghouse kits or parts. Mine has developed 2 large cracks and has already been repaired several times over 20 years. These latest cracks can be repaired as well but probably best just to replace or manufacture the part at this point. My A&P can make the parts but if someone is selling these it might be the faster route. He is already checking with Lasar and Don Maxwell but if anyone knows any other suppliers I would appreciate some input. I remember reading here about a supplier of new doghouse's but my search was not successful. Thanks Quote
Jerry Pressley Posted June 15, 2018 Report Posted June 15, 2018 i got some but don't know what a doghouse is. poodle size or doberman? Quote
Hank Posted June 16, 2018 Report Posted June 16, 2018 I just keep repairing mine. Haven't heard of anyone selling new ones . . . But I'm watching @Sabremech 's new intake closely, as it replaces the doghouse with baffles. Getting a good sheet metal guy to make replacement doghouse parts would be quite an accomplishment (I've tried without results . . . . ). Quote

A good sheet metal guy would have no problem making any or all of the doghouse, the problem would be finding them, there are 2 at T65 but both are retired and it's hard to motivate them (even with cash) Quote
takair Posted June 16, 2018 Report Posted June 16, 2018 I thought I recently saw LASAR having a sale on some baffle/doghouse parts. OEM, so even on sale they were $. Quote

It's not in too bad of shape. What parts do you need? I might be able to make you new ones if mine are in marginal shape. E-mail is sabremech at gmail.com Thanks, David 2 Quote

Basically I need the two side pieces that go around the rocker arms. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Quote

DXB Posted June 16, 2018 Report Posted June 16, 2018 My doghouse is more RTV than sheet metal at this point. Im hoping it will hold out until Sabremech’s mod is complete... 1 Quote

I can make some new ones for you, but I would need yours as a pattern. Thanks, David Quote
AlexLev Posted June 16, 2018 Report Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) Didn't aircraftspruce sell it at some point? Edited June 16, 2018 by AlexLev Quote

steingar Posted June 16, 2018 Report Posted June 16, 2018 Mine’s pretty ugly too. I’ve seen parts for sale, but they are $$$$$, like the man said. I certainly don’t have the skills to fabricate a plenum. I think I’ll soldier on with it until my mechanic says otherwise. Quote
Jerry Pressley Posted June 17, 2018 Report Posted June 17, 2018 i have quite a few of these parts but there are differences. need to know just what you need. and a fellow mooneyite in sc has a complete set. Quote
Yetti Posted June 17, 2018 Report Posted June 17, 2018 This interests me. On one thread someone gives me static for doing a little computer coding, but then certified mechanics have a hard time taking 15 minutes to scribe and cut some aluminum. color me confused. Quote
1964-M20E Posted June 18, 2018 Report Posted June 18, 2018 Have you tried Air Forms out of Alaska? They made me one for my 64E several years ago. Quote

It’s much longer than 15 minutes to make these parts. Probably would take the better part of a day if there’s multiple parts that require riveting. David Quote
Greg Ellis Posted June 18, 2018 Report Posted June 18, 2018 Air forms in Alaska made a new one for me. Closer tolerances than the old one and I saw better cooling immediately. Www.Airforms.biz Quote

For the other pieces you have a pattern Quote

The bottom piece wears badly on the edge as it slides in and out, splitting and cracking. Edited June 18, 2018 by Hank Quote

I don’t think so. 1 Quote
