aschardt Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 Hello, I have a '67 M20F with the Ray Jay Turbo, Manual Wastegate on it. I have been noticing an increasing amount of friction on the wastegate controller vernier control knob. It takes several pounds of pressure to push the knob in. Also the wastgate is very sensitive, push the controller in three inches and we get no MP increase. Then, the next 1/4" results in four inches of MP. Very easy to overdo it. When its on the ground and you push the knob, it is rough and sqeals like steel on steel. Not comforting. Anyone else have a problem like this and does anyone know who to take this turbo to for overhaul or repair? My A&P is reluctant to do it as he has very little turbo expiriance. Thanks! -Aaron Quote
Greg_D Posted April 18, 2009 Report Posted April 18, 2009 You might try putting some mouse milk oil on the wastegate flapper bearing. I think that's what it is called. Mine was doing the same thing and this solved the problem. Quote
airfoill Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 You may also may want to lubricate the cable with a light oil or Triflow. I have the same system you have and I lubricate the cable at every annual. Quote
TurboExec Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 I'd do what both Greg and Herb said....I have the same system and yes you do have to screw in the vernier knob just about closing the wastegate all the way till the turbo comes on line and closes the ambient air door in the airbox. Then yup mine too is real sensitive to changes in altitude and position of the wastegate. I'd use some mouse milk on it and otherwise it sounds like normal operation to me. Quote
piperpainter Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Does anyone know a place you can get these turbo's nowdays? I know the company in FL went out of business from a hurricane. Quote
